Technical Note:
The HHSC Quick Resource Guide is intended to help promotoras (community-based health workers) make appropriate referrals to health and
human service agencies and partners of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission’s Office of Border Affairs.
The Quick Resource Guide is not, however, designed for use in determining program eligibility. Categories listed in this book do not constitute
all criteria used in the certification process, and eligibility is determined by each individual agency or organization.
links individuals and families to critical health
organizations and government agencies in
their own communities.
Formerly known as the “Food Stamp”
families buy the food they need for good
health. People apply for benefits by
completing a state application form. Benefits
are provided on an electronic card that is used
like an ATM card and accepted at most
grocery stores.
