Changing the Firebox Mode with a Serial Connection Using Maintenance Mode Menu Screens Maintenance mode Menu state gives you a context-sensitive menu system to access the data you can control directly at the Firebox. To select Menu mode, press the Up or Down button on the Firebox keypad while in Firebox Maintenance mode. Use the: • Left button to select the menu item that is currently shown. • Right button to exit from Menu mode and return to Status Screen mode. • Up button to show the previous menu. • Down button to show the subsequent menu. If, after 10 seconds, no button is pressed, the LCD interfacel again shows the Status screen. Using Maintenance Mode Dialog Screens Maintenance mode dialog screens let you start and stop the Firebox maintenance server and give the Firebox external or trusted interface an IP address you can connect to. After a connection is possible, a WatchGuard technical support representative will guide you through the use of an applicable tool to restore functionality to your Firebox. To select Dialog mode, use the options available in Menu mode. In Dialog mode, use the: • Right button to move through the fields in a dialog box to find the field to change. • Left button to select the field in the display to change. The selected field shows with square bracket symbols, such as [192]. • Up button to increase the value of a number if a number is selected. Or, to go back to the previous field if a field is selected. • Down button to decrease the value of a number if a number is selected. Or, to go the subsequent field if a field is selected. Note When you change the value of a number, a single click of the Up or Down button changes the number slowly. A double-click of the Up or Down button changes the number quickly. Changing the Firebox Mode with a Serial Connection WatchGuard personnel and authorized partners have the option to perform any of the functions outlined in this document using a serial connection to the Firebox. Connect a serial cable between your computer and the front of the Firebox (with the settings 115200, 8N1). You can use the WatchGuard XClass Diagnostic Environment command line interface to boot the Firebox into Maintenance mode. Then, use the “ifconfig” command to configure an interface and “server start” to begin listening on all configured interfaces for “mpf” connections. You can provision the Firebox with a flash image and upload an FBI backup using the fbxinstall command from an MS-DOS prompt. 74 WatchGuard System Manager
CHAPTER 6 WebBlocker Content WatchGuard® WebBlocker, together with the HTTP proxy, supplies Web filtering for the content of the Web pages your users open in their browsers. WebBlocker uses a URL database created and controlled by SurfControl. Searching for Blocked Sites To see if WebBlocker is blocking a Web site as part of a category block, go to the Filter Testing and Submissions form on the SurfControl Web site. 1 Open a Web browser and go to: http://mtas.surfcontrol.com/mtas/MTAS.asp 2 Type the URL or IP address of the site to check. 3 Click Test Site. The search engine tells you if the site is on the SurfControl list. You can also request that the URL be added to the SurfControl list. WebBlocker Categories The WebBlocker database contains nine groups of categories with 40 individual categories. A Web site is added to a category when the contents of the Web site meet the correct criteria. Web sites that give opinion or educational material about the subject matter of the category are not included. For example, the drugs/drug culture category denies sites that tell how to use marijuana. They do not deny sites with information about the historical use of marijuana. Reference Guide 75
