9:30 am: Demographic Trends and Implications for
the Marina Industry
Recent demographic trends show the impacts of the
economic downturn of the last few years, but are you fully
aware of the implications of the shifting demographics
across the United States? Between 2000 and 2010, the
United States experienced the slowest growth (9.7 percent)
of any decade since the Great Depression. In addition,
although foremost on the minds of many, immigration has
slowed significantly from the high rates of immigration of
the 1990s and early 2000s. Even birth rates have slowed
for all racial/ethnic groups. These national trends play out
differently regionally and population growth continues
to be concentrated primarily in metropolitan areas, along
the coasts, and in southern and western states. The United
States is also becoming an increasingly ethnically diverse
population—and in fact racial/ethnic minorities contributed
to over 90 percent of the total population growth in the
United States during the previous decade and U.S. Census
projections indicate that the U.S. population will be less
than 50% non-Hispanic white by 2050. Join this session
to explore these demographic trends and their potential
impacts to the marina industry during this session.
12:00 pm: Luncheon
2:00 pm: Today’s World of Finance
Preparing your company for a financing request includes
1) understanding and meeting the “5 C’s of Credit,” 2)
comparing your company’s financial statements and ratios to
those in the industry, and 3) forecasting the financial future
of your company. Do you know how real estate is valued
based upon similar properties that have recently sold in your
area? How do you calculate the value of your company’s
income stream and how does cash flow impact the final
value? Finally, what does replacement cost mean and how
it is computed? Join this session to learn the difference
between “Value In Use” versus “Market Value” and what
businesses in the marina industry need to accomplish in
order to secure future financing.
Sid Spiro, Regent Bank
2:45 pm: Insurance Issues and Risk Management
Talk directly to three insurance experts about the current
status of the commercial marine property market, risk
suppliers, and customers), best management practices
related to insurance, and proper marine maintenance and
controls. At this session, your questions will be answered
and you will find solutions to risk management at your
marina.
