What is a SBHC?
School-based health centers (SBHCs) are one of the
ways communities address the unmet health needs of
young children and adolescents in the school setting
during school hours.
Kaleida Health school-based health centers provide
students in nine Buffalo Public Schools with ageappropriate,
culturally-sensitive primary health care
services.
A nurse practitioner works in partnership with a
Kaleida Health physician from Women & Children’s
Hospital of Buffalo, as well as the child’s primary
care physician, to provide comprehensive care that
promotes wellness and healthy lifestyle habits for
children, youth and families.
How much does it cost?
Children and adolescents are not charged for these
services. Health services are made possible through
support provided by the New York State Department
of Health.
How do you sign your child up?
Parents must fill out the enrollment package, which is
available at the school-based health center.
Do you need an appointment?
Walk-ins and appointments are welcome.
What should you do if your child needs health
services after school hours?
Contact your primary care provider for after-hour
emergencies, or call Women & Children’s Hospital
of Buffalo at (716) 878-7000 and ask to speak to the
general pediatric physician on-call.
