LIKE MANY OF YOU, I am a working mother, juggling what seems to be a million
things every day. We all know that, as mothers, our children come first in our list
of priorities - nothing is more important to us than their happiness and wellbeing.
Then there are our husbands or partners, family, friends, work, the house… the list is
seemingly endless, and it’s easy to push our own needs aside in order to make sure
everything else is taken care of. We women so easily get into a mind-set that tells us
that looking after our own needs is somehow selfish or trivial.
But over the years I’ve learned that it is essential for us to take care of ourselves
in order to take care of others. I think it was Billy Joel who said “...Do what’s good
for you, or you’re no good to anybody...” and I believe that to be true.
That’s probably the thing I love most about the work we do here at Esteem.
Everyday we help women look and feel the best they can, and send them back out
into the world refreshed and renewed, full of confidence, motivation and excitement.
The knowledge that we are making a real difference in our clients’ lives is what
drives me to ensure that Esteem is at the cutting-edge of our industry, bringing you
the most technologically advanced, effective products and procedures the world of
science and beauty has to offer.
Speaking of technological advancements… we have extremely exciting news for
you. If you are anything like me, there are areas of your body that are less then
perfect; some pesky areas of fat that you simply can’t shift, no matter what you
do. For me, it’s my tummy, a by-product of my pregnancies. Despite gruelling hours
at the gym and thousands of sit-ups and crunches (fun!), I just can’t get rid of my
tummy.
In my position, I get to see every new machine and product on the market, many
of them claiming to get rid of unwanted fat. We have researched and tested so many
of these so-called miracle cures that I have literally lost count. And, while some do
produce some results for some people, we have never used or endorsed any of them
because we have never found anything other than liposuction that is scientifically

SMOKY EYES?
All it takes is seven easy steps and some guidance.
You will need:
• Three different shades of eye shadow. One dark, one
medium and one lighter shade of the same colour.
• Eyeliner (either black or brown).
• Mascara (either black or brown).
• A good quality eye shadow brush.
• Translucent powder.
Step 1 Before applying the eye shadow, make sure your
eyelids do not contain any oil or residue. And, just to be on
the safe side, dust the eyelid with a little translucent base
powder before applying the make-up.
Step 2 Starting at the inner corner of the upper lid, line the
eye using your eyeliner just above the lash line. Make sure
you line the other eye exactly the same.
Step 3 Apply the lightest shade of eye shadow or
highlighter just under the eyebrow, across the brow bone.
Dust over the full lid once you’re done. Don’t forget the
other side.
Step 4 Using the medium-toned shade, apply the eye
shadow to the upper portion of the eyelid. Start at the lash
line and work your way upwards to the crease of the eye.
Remember to blend , blend ,blend.
Step 5 Using the darkest shade of eye shadow ,apply the
shade to the eyelid, starting at the outer-most corner of
the upper lid. Slowly blend the shade to about the middle
of the eyelid. When you’re done, blend this shade into the
medium shade.
Step 6 To intensify the smoky-eye effect ,you can add some
eyeliner to the lower eyelid, making sure to not go under
the eye line.
Step 7 Apply mascara to create brighter eyes. And you’re
done! Just remember practice makes perfect!

Marie Essack
decided it was
time to look
after herself.
LIKE many of us, Marie Essack has spent most of her life happily taking care of
others. With five children, a husband and a busy career in clinical nursing, there
was little time for Marie to focus on herself. Not that she was complaining. “I
love being a mother, and taking care of my family,” Marie says. “And I have
always loved nursing, but once my children got to a more independent age, I
wanted to take some time to look after myself.

If the eyes are “the windows to the soul” then surely the skin is the front garden.
THERE WAS A TIME, NOT TOO LONG AGO, WHEN BEAUTY WAS a
fairly generic, narrow concept. All we saw staring back at us from
billboards and magazine covers were tall, big-busted women with
long blond hair, big blue eyes, and a huge perfect smile.
Thankfully, over the past few decades, our ideas on beauty have
expanded: there is no one ‘look’ that defines beauty. The women
touted as ‘the most beautiful in the world’ now come in all shapes
and sizes. Some are pale, some dark; some have long, angular
features, others are more cherubic. And while the structure of beauty
seems to be expanding and ever-changing, there is still one element
that remains unchanged, one common feature that all beautiful
women, regardless of age, share: fresh, radiant, glowing skin.
There is a certain amount of mystery surrounding the impact
our skin has on our overall look. Unless there is an obvious
skin condition, it is rare that we consciously notice
a person’s skin, yet it is our skin that determines
how our face is perceived. If our skin is dull,
wrinkled or blemished, we look tired and
older than our years – no matter how
striking our facial features may be.

“The Portrait device resembles a laser
in many ways, but in fact is not a laser but a
plasma device. It uses ionised gas to resurface the
skin, reducing facial wrinkles, removing or reducing sun
spots, benign skin lesions, acne scarring and pigmentation, and

In simple terms, the Portrait system is a ‘one-step’ procedure
that removes the top layer of skin and induces tightening and

Resurfacing. On top of this, there is only a week or 10 days down
time.
The effectiveness and high safety level of the Portrait treatment
have been well documented (the procedure is FDA approved), and
