Big Friends, Big Dreams
On August 30, 2010 Omaha Children’s
Museum honored the fourth annual
Great Friend to Kids award recipients.
The honorees, Susan and Mike Lebens,
Janet Strauss and Peter Kiewit Sons’, Inc.
are people that believe in our mission
enough to take great strides to further
our institution for future generations.
We believe in the power of play and
encourage big dreams on a daily basis
at Omaha Children’s Museum. The
Great Friend to Kids honorees are
big dreamers who encourage those
around them to get involved and make
a difference. Evidence of their support
and efforts can be clearly seen every
day on the faces of our young visitors.

animals have finally found a new home
at Omaha Children’s Museum.
The pack needs some TLC. Over the
years they’ve endured much hardship,
including harsh Nebraska winters and
scorching summers. They are battered
and tattered and the museum needs
your help to restore and refinish the
animals to their former glory.

introduced into Richman Gordman
stores in 1964. Share a memory, make

Omaha’s Biggest Baby Shower
Expecting a new addition at your
house? Come to Omaha’s Biggest
Baby Shower, a free event sponsored
by Methodist from 8-11 a.m. on
September 25, 2010.
With helpful presentations from
Methodist, new moms and dads can
get valuable information
about caring for their
newborn or the one
that’s about to hatch.
Topics include; How to
Bathe Your Baby, How to
Swaddle and How to
Hold Your New Sibling
(for new brothers and sisters).
Attendees will also be treated to
healthy goodies by Whole Foods and
go home with goodie bags filled with
tons of information and prizes.
Enjoy a fashion show by Belly Bump
Maternity and see great new styles for
moms-to-be and fun fashions for kids.
Don’t forget to check out the rest of
the museum including the Wiggle
Room where infants can explore,
crawl and learn. This event is free.

It’s back and better than ever! First
Friday Family Date Nights begin again
with an out-of-this-world kickoff
event on September 3 from 4-8 p.m.
Our theme is May the Force Be With
You, so get your light saber ready
for some space-age fun! Activities
include Jedi training, jet-pack crafts
and a galaxy full of delight. First
Friday Family Date Nights are the
first Friday of each month while we
observe winter hours. Food from
Hy-Vee will be available for purchase.

Bringing Back The Pack Family Block Party – (October 22,
6-9 p.m.): Be the first to play on the Richman Gordman Zooland
Animals in their new habitat inside the Big Backyard exhibit. Enjoy

opening of Cobweb Castle: The Not-So-Scary Haunted House. The
castle will be open throughout the month of October and is free

Cobweb Castle: The Not-So-Scary
Haunted House is returning for
another year of Halloween
fun! Open October 1-31, this
kid-friendly attraction allows
small visitors to experience the
Halloween creepy-crawlies without fear. Cobweb Castle
features a spooky graveyard, Find-Your-Way Forest,
Pirates Parlor, Kooky Kitchen, Casper’s Closet
and Vampire’s Batty Bedroom.
Healthy Trick-Or-Treat Nights are a fun way for families
to enjoy a safe and healthy Halloween trick-or-treating

Pumpkin-Carving
Palooza!
Tips For Carving The Perfect Pumpkin
1. Make sure your pumpkin is on a flat, sturdy surface.
2. Let little ones draw an outline of the lid on the top
of the pumpkin with a marker or pencil.
3. Kids will love scooping out the pumpkin’s GUTS! Let
them help pick out the seeds to roast for a yummy and
nutritious snack.
4. Little ones may want to just draw or paint on the
pumpkin – no knives! But older kids can help create the
design for carving.
5. Make sure a responsible adult does the carving – watch
those fingers!
6. Light up the night with your pumpkin using a candle,
Christmas lights or even glowsticks!

most-requested activities at the museum. We’re painting every
day this summer and experimenting with different brushes, types
of paint and techniques. Paint, let your masterpiece dry and take it

shows include The Amazing Bubble Show and Whiz Bang Super
Science Show. Come watch and learn as we explode soda, make
huge bubbles, and much more!
Stay Fit – (Daily at 3:15 p.m.): Get your body moving every day
at the museum! We’ll stay healthy this fall with fun activities like
playing with a giant parachute, learning a new dance, or playing
backyard games like hopscotch, hula hoop and jump rope. These
group activities make staying fit, fun!
