10.3 How <strong>to</strong> Calculate <strong>the</strong> Quantity of Material<br />
Each of <strong>the</strong> following must be included <strong>to</strong> calculate <strong>the</strong> quantity of materials s<strong>to</strong>red or handled or likely <strong>to</strong> be<br />
s<strong>to</strong>red or handled at a facility-<br />
• <strong>the</strong> maximum amount of <strong>the</strong> material normally present in process vessels and<br />
interconnecting piping systems;<br />
• <strong>the</strong> maximum capacity of s<strong>to</strong>rage tanks and vessels;<br />
• <strong>the</strong> maximum quantity of <strong>the</strong> material that is likely <strong>to</strong> be present in package<br />
s<strong>to</strong>rage areas; and<br />
• <strong>the</strong> maximum quantity of materials contained in pipelines outside process areas or <strong>the</strong><br />
maximum quantity of material that could escape from a pipeline in <strong>the</strong> event of its failure.<br />
However, an isolated quantity of a material that does not exceed 2% of its prescribed quantity need not be<br />
included.<br />
In this section “material” means<br />
• a hazardous material mentioned in Table 1; or<br />
• a type, class or category of hazardous material mentioned in Table 2.<br />
