Chemical and physical properties
(not part of specifications)
Form
Colour
clear low viscosity,
liquid
light
Active matter ~ 30 %
Properties
• Low viscosity aqueous solution (pumpable);
active matter app. 30 %.
• TEGO ® Betain L 7 is regarded as an amphoteric
surfactant; it is cold processible with
anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactants.
• Good foaming properties, good foam quality
(finely porous and stable); quality of foam is
not influenced by hardness of water.
• Skin and mucous membrane compatibility of
common anionic surfactants, that strongly
reduce the quantity of cutanous fat and are
relatively aggressive towards skin and
mucosa, are improved by the addition of
TEGO ® Betain L 7. In hair and skin
cleansing preparations TEGO ® Betain L 7
can give conditioning effect because of its
substantivity.
• Biodegredable (98 % according to OECD-
Confirmatory-Test).
• A significant increase in viscosity is obtained,
if TEGO ® Betain L 7 is combined with
various anionic surfactants. Viscosities
depend on the pH-value of the formulations;
maximum viscosity is attained in the slightly
acid pH-range.
Application
TEGO ® Betain L 7 as a very mild surfactant is
used in all kinds of hair and skin cleansing
products:
• shampoos
• shower and bath preparations
• liquid soaps
• intimate hygiene solutions.
It is generally used in combination with anionic
surfactants in a weight/weight ratio of 1 : 3 to
1 : 4 (TEGO ® Betain L 7 to anionic, related to
active matter).
