Note : Every letter <strong>of</strong> the consonant series is accompanied by the sound â <strong>and</strong> therefore k, x,<br />
[ etc. are read as kâ, khâ, ngâ, etc. For this reason two consonants can form a word without<br />
the help <strong>of</strong> any vowel sign. In such case, the sign q , called sât is placed above the second<br />
consonant. This sign extinguishes the second â from the second letter. Thus, knq (read as) =<br />
kân, ptq (read as) = pât, fkq (read as) = phâk, xpq (read as) = khâp, etc.<br />
