NOISE AND DUST CONTROL – TRAFFIC INTERRUPTIONS<br />
The <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgina</strong> is experiencing growth and improvements from new development as well as local and<br />
Regional capital works projects particularly in the Woodbine Avenue corridor between Glenwoods Avenue and<br />
Morton Avenue. As a result <strong>of</strong> construction activities residents and the travelling public may be inconvenienced<br />
from time to time by noise, mud tracking, blowing dust and traffic diversion. Through the normal development and<br />
capital works construction processes <strong>Town</strong> staff will continue to work with all parties responsible for those projects<br />
to mitigate where possible the impact to all residents <strong>of</strong> that construction.<br />

JOIN YORK REGIONAL POLICE AS AN AUXILIARY OFFICER<br />
The York Regional Police Uniform Recruiting Unit is inviting anyone who is interested in policing<br />
to give back to their community and apply for a unique and rewarding opportunity to become an<br />
Auxiliary Officer.<br />
York Region is <strong>of</strong> one <strong>of</strong> the fastest-growing communities in Canada and York Regional Police is<br />
keeping pace by actively recruiting Auxiliary Officer candidates <strong>of</strong> the highest calibre who<br />
represent all our diverse communities.<br />
This year’s deadline for Auxiliary Officer applications is Wednesday, June 30, 2010.<br />
Qualifications:<br />
At least 18 years <strong>of</strong> age, Canadian citizen or permanent resident <strong>of</strong> Canada<br />
Physically and mentally able to perform a wide range <strong>of</strong> duties<br />
Possess an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent<br />
Standard first aid and CPR level C<br />
No pending criminal matters before the courts<br />
Have no criminal record for which a pardon was not issued<br />
Are not directly involved in activities which conflict with any police service<br />
Be <strong>of</strong> good moral character and habits<br />
Valid class G licence with full driving privileges<br />
Auxiliary Officers take pride in supporting the regular service in the delivery <strong>of</strong> community-based<br />
crime prevention initiatives and ground searches for lost or missing persons. Members can also<br />
be seen volunteering at community events such as parades and fairs and assisting in car and foot<br />
patrols. Auxiliary Officers will train for two evenings per week and take on a volunteer minimum<br />
commitment <strong>of</strong> 12 hours per month.<br />
York Regional Police <strong>of</strong>fers training to Auxiliary Officers in the areas <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer safety and<br />
defensive tactics. Although Auxiliary Officers are not permitted to carry firearms, they qualify and<br />
train on firearms once per year. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to see the intricate world<br />
<strong>of</strong> policing.<br />

CANADA DAY CELEBRATIONS! FIREWORKS – JULY 1 @ 10:00PM!<br />
In celebration <strong>of</strong> Canada Day, there will be various community celebrations at the following sites: Keswick Home Hardware, The Wet Thumb,<br />
Jackson’s Point Parkette, Sutton Sobeys, <strong>Georgina</strong> Arts Centre & Pefferlaw <strong>You</strong>th Centre. Each site will have a variety <strong>of</strong> the following:<br />
inflatable bouncers, face painting, local musicians, children’s prizes, Canada Day souvenirs, hot dogs, Canada Day cake!<br />
This year, the <strong>Town</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Georgina</strong>’s Canada Day Fireworks Display will be lit from a barge out over Lake Simcoe! The area to view the display<br />
will be from De La Salle Park and Franklin Beach.<br />
Lake Drive will be closed from Brule Lakeway to Salvation Army Road from 9:00pm to 11:00pm on July 1st, 2010.<br />
FREE bus service will be available from the Ice Palace in Keswick, Peter Gzowski Library in Sutton and the Pefferlaw Lions Hall. Pick up<br />
from these locations is 8:45pm. Buses will return immediately after fireworks.<br />
