MARY: LITURGICAL AND SPIRITUAL THEOLOGY
This course will explore the relationship between the Blessed Virgin Mary and
the various schools of Catholic Spirituality, i.e., the Jesuit, Franciscan, and Dominican
schools. The course will reflect on the title of Mary as "mother and
teacher of the spiritual life" with a particular focus on the writings of St. Louis de
Montfort, St. Alphonsus Liguori and other "Marian" saints. The course will also
examine the Marian feasts in the liturgical calendar and their development
throughout the centuries.

NCTI SPRING SEMINAR: PRAYER AND LIFE IN THE SPIRIT
Music has been describes as the “closest analogy to the direct and effective communication
of grace.” This course will explore the many dimensions of music in
worship from its roots in the Jewish synagogue, through the great Orthodox and
Catholic traditions of chant, the grand religious concert music of the “Masters,” to
the introduction of hymns and in contemporary expressions such as found in the
African American and Latino communities. The seminars will be led by the diverse
faculty of NCTI an ACTS and will seek to include a variety of theological
perspectives: Jewish, Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Protestant. Special
attention will be paid to the role of sacred music in the pastoral ministry.
