MISSION STATEMENT AND GOALS:<br />

• The Mission of the <strong>English</strong> / <strong>Reading</strong> <strong>Language</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Department</strong><br />

is to ensure that Charles Herbert Flowers High School continues<br />

to be a “Mecca of Excellence” by assisting our students to develop<br />

their oral and written communication, artistic, and reading<br />

skills. The <strong>English</strong> / <strong>Reading</strong> <strong>Language</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Department</strong> offers a<br />

variety of required and elective classes which will enable our<br />

students to become active learners.<br />

• The <strong>English</strong> /<strong>Reading</strong> <strong>Language</strong> <strong>Arts</strong> <strong>Department</strong> provides<br />

instruction, activities and assessments that are structured to<br />

accomplish the <strong>English</strong> Core Learning Goals. Students are<br />

encouraged to read and analyze different genres of literature<br />

which will enable them to become effective in all the<br />

Noah Kallish<br />

• Noah Kallish began his teaching career as an Office of Continuing Education<br />

instructor at <strong>Prince</strong> George’s Community College where he developed a<br />

beginning guitar class called, “Let’s Learn to Play the Guitar by Ear.” It is during<br />

this time that he practiced the skills that his Maryland University<br />

undergraduate work instilled regarding both <strong>English</strong> Education and Speech<br />

Education. His goal of graduating and teaching high school students was<br />

realized in 2002.<br />

• His efforts at Charles Herbert Flowers High School continue to this day where<br />

he works to bridge the achievement gap by aiding all of his students, AP<br />

Literature and <strong>English</strong> 12, currently, with promising college level skill sets. His<br />

continued County in-services and graduate work at Coppin State University<br />

concern eliminating the achievement gap and enriching a positive classroom<br />

education climate with practiced and targeted class participation skills.<br />
