WELCOME Welcome to the spring 2013 semester of Queensborough Community College’s Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Development This welcome comes to you at a time our community is recuperating from the effects of Hurricane Sandy. Our thoughts and support are with you and we hope that by the time this catalogue arrives at your door, you, your family, and friends are safe and warm. We are pleased to announce that our spring term will resume regular scheduling and offer many of the enriching programs you have come to enjoy. Our professional development certificate programs in business, healthcare, medical billing, interior design and various other fields continue their series of classes into spring. We look forward to offering an OSHA Certification programs for construction workers and their supervisors as well as a Patient Care Technician certificate program. To assist our English language learners with workplace skills, we are introducing an ABC Seminar Series for Non-Native Speakers: Academic Skills, Business Skills, and Communication Skills. Our new personal enrichment classes include a literature class called Twilight Zone and fine arts classes, Impressionists, and the return of Antique Restoration. The History Seminar series includes: The 1950’s - American Culture in Mid-Century, Churchill & Leadership, and; Vicksburg-Gettysburg 1863 - Two Battles that Saved the Union. Fusion Yoga and a new Salsa Dance class are being introduced, and Ballroom Dancing returns to the dance floor! For our kids and teens, we are introducing Painting Around the World, Programming for Artists, Learn to Speak Art, and BodySmart. Our teens will benefit from a new collaborative partnership between our college Physics department and the Future Teacher’s Society. In addition, if you are looking for a new career in healthcare, there are still some slots left in our training and placement CareerPATH grant program.
