GED Preparation for Adults: High School Equivalency Diploma<br />

TESTING & PLACEMENT for ALL GED STUDENTS: Monday, February 11th at 6-10 pm<br />

Registrants must take <strong>the</strong> Placement Test on February 11th <strong>to</strong> determine <strong>the</strong>ir readiness for a<br />

GED course. Students will ei<strong>the</strong>r be placed in<strong>to</strong> a Pre-GED or GED level class based on <strong>the</strong><br />

results <strong>of</strong> this test. You will receive notification <strong>of</strong> your class assignment. BEX-198 PRE-M<br />

The Pre-GED course prepares students with <strong>the</strong> basic skills needed <strong>to</strong> qualify for <strong>the</strong> GED<br />

course. The GED course prepares adults <strong>to</strong> take <strong>the</strong> High School Equivalency Exam. Our<br />

highly qualified instruc<strong>to</strong>rs will review and focus on <strong>the</strong> major subject areas <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> test<br />

encompassing Ma<strong>the</strong>matics, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing and provide<br />

in-class training for test-taking and time management strategies. Free Math tu<strong>to</strong>ring available<br />

at selected times throughout <strong>the</strong> day, Mondays & Wednesdays.<br />

Prerequisite for <strong>the</strong> GED course: Minimum score on <strong>the</strong> placement test. Students with<br />

below <strong>the</strong> minimum score will be placed in<strong>to</strong> a Pre-GED section. To qualify <strong>to</strong> take <strong>the</strong> GED<br />

exam, students must be ei<strong>the</strong>r at least 19 years <strong>of</strong> age OR 18 years <strong>of</strong> age and <strong>the</strong>ir high<br />

school class must have already graduated before <strong>the</strong> date <strong>the</strong> GED exam is taken.<br />

Please purchase <strong>the</strong> required textbook listed below depending on your placement,<br />

available at <strong>the</strong> QCC Books<strong>to</strong>re, and bring <strong>to</strong> first class meeting:<br />

• Pre-GED: Pre-GED by McGraw-Hill<br />

• GED: Complete GED by McGraw-Hill<br />

An Orientation Program will be held for registrants; schedule <strong>to</strong> be announced.<br />

ESL Bridge <strong>to</strong> GED<br />

Caroline Coppola, MA (TESOL), and TBA (Saturday class)<br />

Designed <strong>to</strong> prepare English Language learners <strong>to</strong> take <strong>the</strong> GED course. Emphasis on <strong>the</strong><br />

preparation for <strong>the</strong> Humanities component (His<strong>to</strong>ry, Science, English Literature, Grammar,<br />

Writing) <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> GED Test, with extra instruction on English language skills. Recommended<br />

<strong>to</strong> develop academic English language skills, if have HS diploma/GED.<br />
