Mooresville Fire and
Rescue awarded
$10,000 grant
MOORESVILLE – Liberty Mutual
presented Mooresville Fire and Rescue a
$10,000 grant on Monday, Dec. 6, at the
Town of Mooresville Board of Commissioner’s
meeting.
Liberty Mutual kicked off its Be Fire
Smart Safety Pledge in September. As one
of its fire safety initiatives, the pledge program
awards 10 grants of $10,000 to local
fire departments across the country in communities
that show a strong commitment to
fire safety.
“I am a native of this area as well as born
and raised,” said Charles Parker of Liberty
Mutual Insurance. “My office is also located
in Mooresville, so this was a great opportunity
for me to help out the community and
give back in several different ways.”
Mooresville Fire and Rescue encouraged
members of the community to take
a 10-question online quiz that tested their
knowledge of fire safety. Each quiz was then
credited to Mooresville Fire and Rescue.
At the end of the 60-day promotion period,
Mooresville Fire and Rescue finished fourth
in the nation within the medium-size department
category.
According to Shane LaCount, assistant
fire chief, the department will use the grant
money to purchase two Sparky the Fire
Dogs costumes to spread the message of fire
safety to children.
In addition the department will start a
new community program that provides
weather alert radios to senior citizens and
other facilities.
Fire Chief Wes Greene thanked the community
for its participation in the online
survey. ❑
template also will be created for use on stationary.
The logo is comprised of a big wave to
represent the lake and a checkered flag in
the background to represent racing.
The town’s public services division will
fabricate decals 4 inches in diameter to go
on town vehicles at a cost of $3,000.
Other uses, such as signs, will occur on a
per-case basis as funding permits. The town
manager’s office will approve the use of the
logo, which will not appear on official contract
or regulatory documents. ❑
Lofton will host a charity golf tournament
on Jan. 22 in Brawley, Calif., to benefit
Lofton, who is the 2009 ARCA Racing
his first full season of NASCAR Camping
the 25-race schedule, Lofton tallied four
top-five and eight top-10 finishes. He ended
the season ranked 12th in the driver point
standings.
