The Crime Scene
This week’s bulletins from Mooresville police
Sheriff’s office: NY man
impersonated officer to
sway judge
MOORESVILLE – The Iredell County
Sheriff’s Office arrested and accused a New
York man on Nov. 19 for
impersonating a law enforcement
officer to intimidate
a judge.
Kris Edward Snyder,
46, of Vestal N.Y., was arrested
in court when he
appeared to answer domestic
violence charges.
In September, Judge
Snyder
Deborah Brown reported to the Iredell
County Sheriff’s Office that she had received
a letter and photograph from
someone claiming to be with the sheriff’s
office.
The letter claimed there was an FBI investigation
involving the judge, the sheriff’s
office and a woman involved in domestic
violence cases Brown had presided over.
But wording and allegations in the letter
seemed suspicious and not consistent
with any law enforcement officer, according
to the sheriff’s office.
The judge also received phone calls
from a man claiming to be an FBI agent
who spoke about the same woman. The
man claiming to be an agent attempted to
influence the judge’s decision by implying
she could be arrested by the FBI if she did
do certain things, the sheriff’s office said.
Detective Lt. Andy Poteat was assigned
to investigate the case. It was determined
that Snyder, who had been the focus of
the letter and calls, had charges pending
in Iredell County Superior Court.
In those cases, Snyder had been charged
multiple times for violation of a domestic
violence order, forgery, felony breaking
and entering and felony possession of cocaine.
Snyder was charged with two counts
impersonating a law enforcement officer
and three counts of obstruction of justice.
