Clinical Patient Management and Handover System (eHandover):
The e-Handover system developed by Dr Aklak Choudhury, Respiratory
Consultant and Mr John White, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon/Clinical IT
Director is an award winning business critical SharePoint Hospital solution
that improves patient safety and staff productivity. It has been running in the
Trust for the past two years and is used by many disciplines, including
Doctors, Nurses, Managers and Performance Teams.
Dr Choudhury and Mr White have been invited by Microsoft to be the first
case study produced as part of the business critical SharePoint Programme
and will attend a Microsoft Conference in Las Vegas in November.
The eHandover solution is the first to identify and successfully manage the
shift gap issue, which results in significant communication failure and patient
risk during nights and weekends. It provides the user with the functionality to
complete their handover tasks safely, efficiently and without duplication and
has the backing of the London Deanery and NHS Innovations. It won the
EHI 2011 Award for “Best use of IT to promote patient safety” and the
Microsoft Partner of the Year for Health Award. It has also been adopted by
three other organisations and they are working with one of the Medical
Education Teams to potentially set the processes as a ‘standard’ for all health
organisations in the UK.
