Day 2 Monday 13 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
Paris<br />
This morning we arrive in Paris, where we will be met by our tour manager and are<br />
transferred into the city of Paris. We will have an orientation tour with a local guide.<br />
During the tour we will see the Eiffel Tower, the Champs Elyssés, the Arc de Triomphe,<br />
the Cathedral of Notre Dame and more. In the afternoon we have free time to allow tour<br />
members to recover from the flight. This evening we have a welcome dinner. Michelle<br />
Marvig will welcome the group and outline the wonderful experiences we will have during<br />
the tour. D<br />
Day 3 Tuesday 14 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
Paris<br />
This morning we will visit the Toile de Jouy Museum. This museum was created in 1977<br />
and dedicated to the activity of the Jouy factory and textile printing. More than three<br />
thousand original Toile de Jouy designs exist. In the technical exhibition room we will<br />
see engraving tools, wood blocks, plates and copper rollers. We will follow the evolution<br />
of Toile de Jouy in the display of bed hangings, ornaments, textile panels and dresses.<br />
In the afternoon we visit Chateau de Versailles, the creation of the French monarchy at<br />
the time of its greatest splendor the 17th century. Consisting of the opulent chateau, the<br />
magnificent gardens and the Trianon. You will enjoy this wonderful Royal Palace.<br />
Day 4 Wednesday 15 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
Paris<br />
This morning will be free for individual activity. The tour manager will help the group with<br />
suggestions for visits. In the afternoon we will visit Musee National du Moyen Age founded<br />
in 1843 and situated in the heart of the Latin Quarter. You will marvel at the tapestries,<br />
especially the famous Lady with the Unicorn tapestry from 15th century Brussels. Midafternoon<br />
we will visit La Boutique du Patchwork, where we will see a large selection of<br />
fabrics. Michelle Marvig will meet those wishing to dine with the group in the lobby.<br />
Day 8 Sunday 19 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
London<br />
Today we travel to Mulhouse, established as an Imperial city at the end of the 13th century.<br />
It was a textile centre already, when in 1746 three citizens founded the first mill producing<br />
calico cotton fabrics. This led to the establishment of large-scale production of fabrics<br />
and the development of printing techniques. This afternoon we will visit the Musee de<br />
l’Impression sur Etoffes. Our visit will explain the history of printed fabric and the history<br />
of design. The first samples of indiennes, printed cotton fabric were imported to the area<br />
in the 19th century. The secret of the famous rouge turc dye was unravelled and bought<br />
riches to Mulhouse. Late afternoon we fly to London. On arrival we will be transferred to<br />
our hotel. Michelle and the tour manager will point out nearby restaurants and join those<br />
wishing to dine together.<br />
Day 9 Monday 20 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
London<br />
This morning we will have a city tour escorted by a local guide. Some of the great landmarks<br />
we see include Buckingham Palace, Whitehall, Trafalgar Square, Westminster Abbey, St<br />
Paul’s Cathedral and the Tower of London. This afternoon we have a very special visit to<br />
Buckingham Palace and the magnificent State Rooms. These are lavishly furnished with<br />
some of the greatest treasures from the Royal Collections.<br />
Day 10 Tuesday 21 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
London<br />
Today we visit Hampton Court Palace, which is an interesting place to learn about the<br />
lives of British Monarchs from Henry V111 onwards. We continue with a tour of the<br />
Embroiderer’s Guild. There will be free time to shop at The Royal Needlework Shop, before<br />
travelling to Creative <strong>Quilting</strong>, which houses about a thousand bolts. It has shop samples<br />
and a generous selection of patterns and books.<br />
Day 11 Wednesday 22 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
London<br />
This morning is free for individual exploration. You may wish to visit Liberty of London,<br />
where beautiful fabrics are available. In the afternoon we travel south to near Walthamstow<br />
to visit the William Morris Gallery. We will see an internationally important collection<br />
illustrating his life, achievements and influences.<br />
Day 5 Thursday 16 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
Colmar<br />
After breakfast the group will travel through the beautiful French countryside to the<br />
city of Colmar. The town has prospered on the proceeds of the wine trade since the 13th<br />
century. The heart of the old town contains many picturesque old houses with turrets,<br />
oriel windows and half timbering. After checking into our hotel we will have free time<br />
to explore this fascinating town. Michelle will meet tour members in the lobby to suggest<br />
nearby restaurants for dinner.<br />
Day 6 Friday 17 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
Colmar<br />
We travel to Sainte Marie aux Mines to visit the Patchwork meeting. We will see over eight<br />
hundred antique, traditional and contemporary textile works. Quilts from many countries<br />
including South Korea, South America, South Africa and Finland are on display and there<br />
are interesting lectures to attend. Michelle will advise on how to make the most of our visit.<br />
Day 7 Saturday 18 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
Colmar<br />
This morning we travel to Sainte Marie aux Mines to continue our visit to the Patchwork<br />
meeting. We return to Colmar mid-afternoon for free time.

Day 12 Thursday 23 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
Bath<br />
Today we travel west to Bath. On the journey we stop in Chawton to visit the Jane Austen<br />
House Museum. Jane was fond of and good at needlework. We can see the quilt made by<br />
herself, her sister, Cassandra and her mother at the beginning of the 19th century. We will<br />
be staying in Bath during the Jane Austen Festival. During this time there will be Europe’s<br />
largest promenade of people dressed in Regency costumes parading along the grand<br />
Georgian terraces. There will be walking tours and specialist talks at the Festival. Michelle<br />
and the tour manager will meet those wishing to dine with the group in the lobby.<br />
Day 13 Friday 24 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
Bath<br />
This morning we have a tour of Bath with a local guide. Bath has been listed as a world<br />
heritage city. Founded around naturally occurring hot springs, the Romans built baths<br />
and a temple. During the Georgian period, Bath became a popular spa resort. We will see<br />
the Roman Baths and Georgian assembly rooms as well as the beautiful terraces built<br />
during Georgian times. In the afternoon we visit the Jane Austen Centre, where we will get<br />
a snapshot of life during Regency times and explore how living in this magnificent city<br />
affected Jane Austen’s life and writing.<br />
Day 14 Saturday 25 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
Bath<br />
This morning will be free for individual exploration. The tour manager will suggest<br />
activities to undertake. In the afternoon, we visit The American Museum in Britain. In<br />
the Manor House you will visit the American Heritage Exhibition. There is also a Folk Art<br />
exhibition. After visiting the museum there are three shops to explore: The Country Shop,<br />
the Herb Shop, and the Gallery Shop.<br />
Day 1 Friday 22 October <strong>2010</strong><br />
Lincoln<br />
We depart Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane and fly via Los Angeles to Lincoln, Nebraska. We<br />
arrive the same day as we depart because we cross the International Date Line.<br />
Day 2 Saturday 23 October <strong>2010</strong><br />
Lincoln<br />
Today we visit the International Quilt Study Centre and Museum, an architecturally<br />
stunning new museum housing a treasure trove of quilts from many countries. People<br />
who love quilts and quilt making have worked many years to bring it into being. I am sure<br />
our visit will be exciting and rewarding. We will have a welcome dinner this evening to get<br />
to know members of our tour. D<br />
Day 3 Sunday 24 October <strong>2010</strong><br />
Chicago<br />
We fly to Chicago today. This afternoon we have a tour of Chicago, the third largest city<br />
in the USA, with a local guide. During the tour we will see the Magnificent Mile, a part of<br />
Michigan Avenue, where exclusive shops line the wide boulevard. We also see the fourth<br />
Presbyterian Church built in the Gothic Revival style and also the one hundred storey<br />
high, John Hancock Centre. Early evening we will have a get together at the hotel for<br />
Michelle Marvig to give a short talk on her quilting experience.<br />
Day 15 Sunday 26 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
York<br />
We travel through the picturesque English countryside to York for most of the day. The city<br />
of York has retained so much of its medieval structure that walking into its centre is like<br />
entering a living museum. We will stop in an attractive town on the way for lunch.<br />
Day 16 Monday 27 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
York<br />
This morning we have a sightseeing tour of York. During the tour we see York Minster,<br />
containing the largest selection of medieval stained glass in Britain. We walk through the<br />
Shambles, a row of ancient houses with second stories leaning over the street. We continue<br />
with a visit to the York Castle Museum, which houses a collection of costume, textiles and<br />
household furniture mainly from the 19th century. Gallery guides often dress in Victorian<br />
clothes. There is also a collection of textiles and fabrics. The afternoon will be free for<br />
individual exploration.<br />
Day 17 Tuesday 28 September <strong>2010</strong><br />
Manchester Airport<br />
In the morning we visit the Quilt Museum and Gallery. It is the national headquarters for<br />
the Quilter’s Guild of the British Isles. Located in St Anthony’s Hall it was originally built as<br />
the headquarters of a religious guild in the 15th century. It now displays the world famous<br />
Heritage Quilt Collection. The museum shop stocks gifts, needles, threads, quilting books<br />
and patterns. In the evening we have a farewell dinner to celebrate our wonderful time in<br />
Europe. D<br />

Chicago<br />
This morning we will travel to the town of Naperville to visit Stitches-N-Stuffing, a huge<br />
quilt store and Bernina dealer. The store is remarkable for the breadth and depth of its<br />
fabric, notion and book offerings. We travel to Lisle this afternoon to visit Pieceful Heart<br />
Fabrics. The store specialises in Kaffe Fassett, Bali Pops and has a large selection of<br />
Brights.<br />
Day 5 Tuesday 26 October <strong>2010</strong><br />
Chicago<br />
This morning we will visit the Arts Institute of Chicago, which has a large selection of<br />
textiles as well as a magnificent collection of European, Asian and American Art. This<br />
afternoon is free for individual activity and perhaps shopping.<br />
Day 6 Wednesday 27 October <strong>2010</strong><br />
Burlington<br />
Today we fly to Burlington, the educational centre of Vermont. The 20,000 students at<br />
the University of Vermont enliven the town and in the downtown area there are many<br />
chic boutiques and an appealing menagerie of sidewalk wares, craft vendors and street<br />
performers. We will stay in Burlington for three nights. Those wishing to dine with the<br />
group will meet in the lobby to have dinner together.
Day 7 Thursday 28 October <strong>2010</strong><br />
Burlington<br />
We will continue our exploration of the region, driving via the shores of Lake Champion,<br />
the largest lake in the United States after the Great Lakes. We travel to Middlebury, an<br />
attractive town with Victorian style buildings converted into stores and restaurants. The<br />
pristine Congregational Church, the stately Middlebury Inn and Middlebury College<br />
make this a charming town. We will also visit Warren, a small village containing craft<br />
shops and an old style country store. The Warren Covered Bridge is reflected in the Mad<br />
River, which flows underneath it. Just out of Warren is the Round Barn, one of several<br />
built in the valley. We continue to the pretty village of Williston, where we visit two local<br />
fabric shops. We return to Burlington for an evening of leisure.<br />
Day 8 Friday 29 October <strong>2010</strong><br />
Burlington<br />
Today we will travel a short distance to the 100 acre Shelburne Museum. Its 35 buildings<br />
contain one of the largest American quilt collections. Exhibitions include 18th and 19th<br />
century houses and furniture, fine art and folk art. We will have a local quilter meet us at<br />
the museum to talk about the quilt collection. Quilts have been selected for their artistic<br />
appeal, fine workmanship and excellent condition.<br />
Day 9 Saturday 30 October <strong>2010</strong><br />
Brattleboro<br />
This morning we drive south to visit Marie Millers Antique Quilts. This is an outstanding<br />
collection of over three hundred quilts from the 19th and early 20th century. We continue<br />
our journey to visit Bennington Museum, a museum celebrating Vermont’s heritage<br />
through a collection of furniture, glass and pottery. We stay overnight in Battleboro.<br />
Day 10 Sunday 31 October <strong>2010</strong><br />
Boston<br />
We will travel by coach south through the beautiful Vermont countryside, where the fall<br />
colours will take your breath away. We continue on to New Hampshire to visit Centre<br />
Harbour, where the well-known quilt shop Keepsake <strong>Quilting</strong> has everything the quilter<br />
will need. We check into our hotel, where we will stay for three nights. Boston was the<br />
cradle of American Independence and is now New England’s centre for finance and<br />
technology. The home of Harvard University, the area is among the most varied and<br />
interesting in America. This evening we shall meet in the lobby and have an evening of<br />
relaxation with Michelle Marvig.<br />
Day 11 Monday 1 November <strong>2010</strong><br />
Boston<br />
This morning we will have a city tour with a local guide. During the tour we will see<br />
Paul Reveres House and Kings Chapel, home to the largest and sweetest-sounding bell.<br />
We will also see Faneuil Hall, and the Old Statehouse, which was the seat of Colonial<br />
Government from 1713. This afternoon we visit the historic town of Quincy and Quincy<br />
Quilter’s Compass. The town was the home of the second President of the United States<br />
and the location of the first railroad in the United States.<br />
Day 12 Tuesday 2 November <strong>2010</strong><br />
Boston<br />
This morning we will visit the New England Quilt Museum at Lowell, which has a<br />
vast array of quilts on display. We also visit the American Textile History Museum, the<br />
world’s largest textile museum. We see finished textiles showcased in colourful displays<br />
of beautiful fabrics, exquisite coverlets and period clothing. We see the Boott Cotton<br />
Mills and explore the history of the mill girls and the Boott Mill boarding house. This<br />
afternoon is free for individual activity.<br />
Day 13 Wednesday 3 November <strong>2010</strong><br />
Houston<br />
This morning we will fly to Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States and an<br />
international business centre. We will visit It’s a Stitch at Humble, a large fabric shop<br />
with many wholesale items and beautiful fabrics. Houston downtown area has a sense<br />
of emptiness, because there are over six miles of underground tunnels connecting more<br />
than seventy of the major businesses. They are a welcome escape from the humidity for<br />
which Houston is famous. We will be ready for the Festival activities tomorrow and enjoy<br />
four nights here. Michelle will meet those wishing to dine with the group in the lobby to<br />
enjoy an early dinner together.<br />
Day 14 Thursday 4 November <strong>2010</strong><br />
Houston<br />
The International Quilt Festival opens today to the public. There will be a large number<br />
of classes that tour members will be able to attend. Book early, so that you are able to<br />
register for the classes of your choice. You book for these classes on the internet. You can<br />
contact Michelle Marvig if you require further information about classes. There will be<br />
classes offered in appliqué, design and all aspects of quilting.<br />
Day 15 Friday 5 November <strong>2010</strong><br />
Houston<br />
We will visit the International Quilt Festival today. There will be time to browse among<br />
the displays and buy items for future quilting.<br />

Houston<br />
Today will be spent at the International Quilt Festival, attending workshops and<br />

Michelle Marvig<br />
Michelle Marvig has been an inspiration for quilters during her 17 years<br />
in the industry. She has constantly published original designs since the<br />
earliest patchwork magazines were circulated in Australia. During this<br />
time she has published over 80 quilt projects in a selection of titles and<br />
co-authored Rapt in Borders with Caroline Price. An accomplished<br />
teacher, she imparts her knowledge to hundreds of students every<br />
year. Michelle is a regular contributor with <strong>Quilters</strong> <strong>Companion</strong>, as<br />
well as designing quilts. She also puts products through their paces<br />
for the Road Test column in the magazine. In 2006 Michelle, together<br />
with Caroline Price, presented the second <strong>Quilters</strong> <strong>Companion</strong><br />
DVD - Bias and Blooms. She followed up with a second DVD for a<br />
Mariner’s Compass Quilt featuring foundation piecing and a third DVD<br />
for machine piecing, a Lone Star. In November 2009 Michelle released<br />
her first line of fabric, Suzani, which she designed for Charles Parsons.<br />
She led the <strong>Quilters</strong> <strong>Companion</strong> <strong>Quilting</strong> tours to the USA in October<br />
2008, April and October 2009 and France and Britain 2009.<br />
The Tour Manager<br />
The tour will be fully escorted by a professional tour manager meeting the group in Paris for the European tour and Lincoln for the<br />
American tour. The tour manager will look after all the travel arrangements on the tour. Each night when we are staying in cities, the<br />
tour manager will organize a restaurant booking for anyone in the group interested in dining with other group members.

General information and booking conditions<br />
International touring can involve a considerable amount of walking and stair climbing in the places visited and it is important that all tour<br />
participants have a level of physical fitness that allows them to take part in this activity without the need of assistance from others.<br />
Tour costs: The tour costs are based on airfare, general<br />
transport, and accommodation costs and foreign exchange<br />
rate at 20 November 2009. No alterations to costings will<br />
be made within 60 days of departure from Australia.<br />
Deposit and payment: A non-refundable deposit of $500 per<br />
passenger is required at the time of booking. Full payment will be<br />
required 64 days before departure.<br />
Cancellations: Cancellations 64 days or less from the date<br />
of departure will result in the loss of all monies paid. Travel<br />
insurance is recommended to cover the costs of cancellation fees<br />
due to illness, death in family, etc.<br />
Minimum Tour Numbers: The tour has been costed on the basis<br />
of a minimum of 20 passengers having booked 64 days prior to<br />
departure. Payment by Visa and Mastercard will incur a one<br />
percent administration fee and AMEX and Diners a three percent<br />
fee. <strong>Travelrite</strong> reserves the right to cancel the tour, giving a full<br />
refund of all monies paid or offer arrangements to proceed with<br />
the tour at a modified cost. <strong>Travelrite</strong> International reserves the<br />
right to change advertised entrances if necessary for the smooth<br />
operation of the tour.<br />
Refunds: The tour is based on arrangements which do not<br />
allow for any refunds in respect to sightseeing, accommodation,<br />
meals, airfare or other services not utilised after the tour has<br />
commenced.<br />
Travel documents: All passengers will require a valid passport.<br />
Visas are not required for France or UK. Visas for the USA are<br />
issued online for Australian passport holders. See Michelle for<br />
details. If you hold another passport please check with <strong>Travelrite</strong><br />
International.<br />
Baggage: All passengers qualify for twenty kilos of luggage to<br />
Europe two pieces of luggage is allowed on flights to USA. One piece<br />
of luggage is allowed in the coach for both tours.<br />
Changes to the tour itinerary: <strong>Travelrite</strong> International reserves<br />
the right to make changes to the itinerary to fit in with operational<br />
requirements. Any change to the itinerary will be replaced with<br />
similar arrangements with an equal or greater value.<br />
Responsibilities: <strong>Travelrite</strong> International Pty Ltd. (Licence<br />
number 30858) is the tour organiser. <strong>Travelrite</strong> acts only as<br />
agents in the making of arrangements with carriers, hoteliers<br />
and others for the tour. As a result we cannot accept liability for<br />
any act or omission whatsoever, whether negligent or otherwise<br />
of those carriers, hoteliers or other persons providing services in<br />
connection with the tour over whom we have no direct or exclusive<br />
control. We do not accept responsibility for any injury, damage,<br />
loss, delay, change of schedule or any other events which are<br />
beyond our direct control, such as, but not limited to, war, flood,<br />
fire, civil disturbance, acts of god, acts of Government, terrorism<br />
or any other authorities, accidents to or failure of machinery or<br />
equipment, or industrial action. The passage contract in use by<br />
the carriers concerned shall constitute the sole contract between<br />
the transportation companies or firms and the purchasers of these<br />
tours and the passengers. Baggage is at own risk throughout the<br />
