RE: [WG] CV XML reporting standard
Boy a Hot topic.
I think a XML standard format will foster application development for all parties.
Since JMRI is a company now (they joined MRIA), they are in the same boat that KAM and other
developers.
As companies, it is easier to develop code to a common specification that is owned by a neutral
organization.
That is why I posted my query
I have always felt that an owned standard drives application development more then anything else.
Owned standards remove the NIH (Not Invented
Here) factor. NIH waste resources and slows down innovation.
To me the NMRA is the best placed to have a specification owned, to make sure they are consistent and
controlled. And if it is a NMRA conformance warrant that controls the process - so be it. The process is
open to all.
From a practical stand point, the XML CV spec is a pretty straight forward document that needs to be put
together, so all parties can benefit.
Mfg could release a new decoder to market and publish the xml specs.
This reduces errors, and benefits the users.
Benefit: Mfg decoders would work with everyone's programmers at product release.
Lets work together and grow the hobby
The XML cv specification is a good place to start.
