Memphis Refinery Joined Valero in 2005 Throughput capacity: 195,000 barrels per day Originally constructed in 1941, the Valero Memphis Refinery was purchased in 2005 as one of four assets acquired from Premcor, Inc. Since that time, Valero has invested more than $245 million upgrading the 250-acre site to create a modern and highly efficient facility. Crude oil is supplied to the refinery through the Capline Pipeline and can also be transported, along with other feedstocks, by barge. Products primarily are distributed via truck-loading racks at three product terminals, barges, and a pipeline directly to the Memphis airport. The Valero Memphis Refinery is the sole fuel supplier to FedEx. 56
Paulsboro Refinery Joined Valero in 1998 Throughput capacity: 195,000 barrels per day The Valero Paulsboro Refinery dates back to 1917, although no significant structures or equipment remain from that era. Almost all operating process equipment was installed after World War II and originally was designed to manufacture quality lubricants. The refinery later expanded to include gasoline production to meet the nation’s energy needs. During the 1970s and 1980s, the refinery completed grassroots construction on four new process units. Eleven other units were modernized and improved, bringing the refinery to its current throughput capacity. Valero purchased the 950-acre site in southern New Jersey from Mobil Corporation in 1998, giving Valero valuable access to markets in the Northeast and an expanded national presence. The plant is VPP Star Site certified for safety. 57
