Mark your calendars! The annual Safety Review meetings will be held on January 5th, January 19th,
Cleveland Rowing Foundation Annual Meeting -- Saturday, January 12 at
the Flat Iron Cafe
All are invited to the annual CRF (Cleveland Rowing Foundation) meeting! The meeting will be on
Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 10:00am on the second floor of the Flat Iron Cafe.
WRRA Winter Erging
WRRA Winter Erging sessions are in full swing! Ergs are available to WRRA full-year members on a
first-come first-served basis.
If you have rowed only one season (e.g. SRL without continuing to FRL), you will need to register for
the Winter Erging Fee which provides access to the boathouse and facilities during the winter months.
The fee is $85 and you can register for that HERE: http://bit.ly/ZBIlgU
If you rowed SRL and FRL, or are a member of general sweeps or general sculling (or otherwise
rowed in both summer and fall), you are already eligible to participate.
Practice times and days for Dec through Feb are:

Mon, Wed and Fri: 7-9pm; Tues and Thurs 6:30-8:30pm; Sat 7-8:30 am
Ø Traditionally, more experienced rowers help to organize workouts based on coach or trainer
recommendations, or participants can choose to do their own workouts.
Ø Ergs are first-come, first-served during WRRA practice times. If erg availability becomes an
issue, a doodle will be used to manage demand.
Ø Winter erging is not an official program offered by WRRA; it is simply a group of WRRA rowers
who like to erg who self-organize these sessions.
If you have questions about Winter Erging structure, schedule or contact list, please contact
info@westernreserverowing.com.
If you have questions about registration, please contact membership@westernreserverowing.com.
Power 10 Q and A with Sharon Romilly
Many thanks to Sharon for giving us a closer look into her rowing career -- Who knew ? that in addition
to rowing, Sharon Romilly loves basketball and process engineering!
1. Where are you from?
I am from Verona Pa., about 10 miles from Pittsburgh, on the Allegheny River.
2. Where do you work and what do you do?
I work on computers at Arcelor Mittal Steel. I am a process automation engineer. Simply, I write applications that read devices,
control automation and gather and store information. I find working in the Steel Mill fascinating and NEVER boring and I enjoy
the process.
3. How did you get into rowing?
My first love is basketball. I played all the time and still miss it. Unfortunately, I destroyed my knee and needed another outlet.
While riding the mono-rail, at WVU, I saw a shell out on the water. I was fascinated by the grace of the sport and decided that I
needed to try it. I went to my first meeting to paint oars and that''s all she wrote!
4. What are your non rowing hobbies?
Growing up, my hobbies were PLAYING. I loved to be outside. I use to golf a lot and like to grow things, but the deer are
winning.
5. Favorite rowing moment?
I have so many great stories.
The first time I won Nationals in my single, stroking an eight at the Charles and winning. And, it goes without saying rowing with
Dianne Schubeck. There is never a dull moment when we are in the boat together. She is such a great friend and mentor!
6. Toughest part of rowing?
Feel and Focus!
You have to visualize and feel the boat move. The other part is the focus to make each stroke the best or better than the
previous stroke.
7. Best advice received about rowing?
I am not sure about advice, but more support. My husband was the one who pushed me into not quitting. He bought me a
single!
8. What is on your bucket list?

I would like to travel with my husband and go to Alaska and Russia. In rowing, go to Italy and race the Skiff, race the real
Henley and maybe try the Crash B''s one more time.
9. Piece of advice for folks joining WRRA?
Be willing to accept constructive criticism. Watch others row when you have the opportunity and visualize what they do well.
Never say you can''t and learn to row both sides. Don''t rely on gossip as the truth because there are some really nice people at
the BH. Sometimes, they are just as shy as you are! And, get involved. That is how I know everyone.
10. What advice do you have for the younger you?
To not listen to those who were negative and said you can''t do this or that and had been more of a risk taker.
