Five years ago michael neugebauer edition was newly founded after the publisher Michael
Neugebauer ended his affiliation with the Swiss Nord Süd Publishing. Successful on all five continents,
today’s publishing structure is well positioned internationally.
The headquarters for Michael Neugebauer Publishing Ltd. is located in Hong Kong where Michael
Neugebauer serves as Director of Publishing and works as an editor and designer of all minedition
books.
The question is often asked how it is possible for this publishing entity to be so strong and uniquely
positioned in the business of licensing. The answer is easy.
The name Neugebauer has always stood for the highest artistic quality and our partners share the
same dedication to excellence.
The publishing headquarters for the German speaking countries is located in northern Germany with
distribution through the Egmont Publishing Group in Cologne. Minedition France, established in 2007,
is based in Paris and minedition rights and licences are handled from our Zurich, Switzerland office.
The international production functions as the imprint minedition and is a “package” with numerous
international partners.
Minedition’s books are seen all over the world and some of them are available in more than 30

KVETA PACOVSKA
Born in 1928 in Prague, Kvěˇta
Pacovská graduated from the
Prague School of Applied Arts,
where she studied Czech modernism
and was introduced to
the European avant-garde. Her
work merges the aesthetic traditions
of children’s book illustrators
with influences from
modern artists, such as Wassily
Kandinsky, Paul Klee, and Joan
Miró. She draws, paints, and
creates collages in which she
experiments with the links
between image and text.
In addition to illustrating nearly
sixty books, Ms. Pacovská has
held numerous one-women
shows and regularly takes part
in international art exhibitions.
Fittingly, she received the Hans
Christian Andersen Medal for
children’s book illustration in
1992.

An acting troupe performs a special show for the moon when she comes
down for a visit. Features split pages that can be flipped to combine different
characters and costumes.
For those inclined to muse on the secret life of the moon (``Where is the moon
when he is not in the sky?'') this unusual picture book offers a romantic
answer: at the theater. One night, while the actors are sleeping, the clown
sees a sliver of moonlight across the theater floor. Inspired, he climbs up to
the moon and invites the moon to visit their stage. ``The moon sits in the theater
and his gentle light spills onto the stage. One by one the players wake
up.'' And so the midnight play begins. Pacovsk's (The Flower King) avantgarde
artwork (sophisticated, clownish figures with bulging eyes and bright
red noses) is enhanced by fancy paper engineering. The moon is cut out
from the cover and first few pages, creating a window into the book; and a
die-cut moon is fastened to the book's spine by a length of twine, so that it
can be inserted into any of the cut-out moon ``holes.'' The actors themselves
are featured on tri-cut pages, so that heads, torsos and legs can be
rearranged in various configurations. Absurd yet fun; the high price tag, however,
will deter all but the truly ``moonstruck.'' All ages.

"Květa Pacovská was born in 1928 in Prague,
where she still lives and works. She began her
career as an illustrator in the fifties, specialising in
object books, three-dimensional tactile works and
illustrations of children’s stories. A sense of playfulness
is an essential characteristic of her work. Her
works include bizarre collages, mirrors and superimpositions
of different kinds of paper, cut-outs
capable of generating ever new characters and
stories, as in the miniature theatre of Midnight Play.
Her illustrations are immediately recognisable for
the use of bold, saturated colours without nuances,
a dense style and almost childlike use of lines.
Her passion for geometric and abstract shapes is
often based on the use of linguistic signs, as in
Alphabet in which letters and numbers merge with
her creatures..."

Charles Perrault, an author and poet, living in 17th century France was a
distinguished member of the Académie française. He was also embroiled in the
famous literary battle between those favoring the literature of Antiquity and
those who attempted to prove the superiority of modern literature of the time.
He is probably best known, however, for his Tales of Mother Goose (Les Contes
de ma Mère l'Oie) which brought him great popularity and marked the dawn of
a new genre, the fairy tale. Little Red Cap, Cinderella, Tom Thumb, and
Donkeyskin along with others brought a freshness, intelligence, and beauty to
the world of children’s literature which continues to fascinate and amaze
readers to this day.

The contrasts between Grandpa’s reds and
Grandma’s blues are striking and the whitewash
backgrounds accentuate this. All the rooms
depicted seem absolutely huge but not unbelievably
so, as the story is told from the child narrator’s
point of view. This vastness is reinforced by the fact
that the book is composed entirely of doublepage
spreads (with the exception of the title page
and final page which is an illustrated epilogue).
There are little things happening just shy of the
main action in each scene, little things that make
reading and re-reading with someone else so
much fun. These tiny details also foreshadow the
conclusion of the story which, though predictable,
is still entirely satisfying.
It’s so hard to play with other children when you’re
shy, as one little boy can tell you. He hides under
the table when his parents’ friends come over,
and at school he’s too timid to make friends. But
when he sees a mysterious girl who hides in the
cherry tree every day after school, he wants to be
brave enough to approach her. He gets himself a
dog — the bravest dog he can find. And when his
new pal takes a liking to the girl, the two become
fast friends. She too is very bashful, but now they
play together every day after school. Though her
family will be moving away at the end of the year,
they promise to keep meeting at the tree
whenever it’s cherry time. Here is a beautiful,
delicate story about learning to overcome your
shyness and reach out to others.

University and at the Sorbonne

sons, three dogs, two cats, two
horses, two donkeys, and live in
Priziac, France, in a very old
house which he has renovated
himself.
Max thinks school is boring, and his
Uncle Bill’s idea of livening things up
doesn’t sound too exciting either. He
gives Max a sack of flower seeds
for his birthday. At first Max
is skeptical, but he follows
his uncle’s instructions
and scatters the seeds
on his way to school. From
that moment on, magical
changes take place.

A rat moves through the history of the 20th and
the beginning of the 21st centuries. In the first part
the rat leaves its accommodation in the Winter
Palace in Petrograd, is discovered by intruding
revolutionaries and ends the first part the journey
in the sewers of Vienna. The second part of story
begins in Casablanca, where the rat is a pet in
Rick’s Café Américain - and ends in Berlin, where
the third part begins. Here the rat belongs to a
punker in the Squatting scene of the 70s where a
