COSIG Co-Occurring Disorders Conference, Hershey PA, May 15-17, 2006 Types of Charges Leading to Incarceration (N=30) Successes Percentage 100 80 60 40 20 36.7% (11) 13.3% (4) 40% (12) 76.7% (23) 6.7% (2) • Education of judges, attorneys and probation officers • Appropriate screening and identification of clients • Provision of treatment to the individuals identified and enrolled in the program • Encouragement of all eligible inmates to participate in the program • Facilitation of a pre-release transition team meetings and development of a written plan for continuing care for all participating inmates 0 Drug Related Violent Nonviolent Other F = Family Type of Charge BC-SCORES BC SCORES Beaver County System of Care: Optimizing Resources, Education and Services • 25 system of care awards in FFY 05-06. • 2 in Pennsylvania (Beaver and Allegheny) • Currently 60 funded system of care communities throughout the continental US, Hawaii and Alaska. • 6 year project, totaling approximately $6,000,000.00 • National Collaborative including: – National Technical Assistance Center at Georgetown – ORC Macro – Federation of Families for Children’s Mental Health – American Institutes of Research BC-SCORES • A collaborative effort to establish a System of Care for adolescents and young adults ages 14-21 with co-occurring disorders who have been identified through the Juvenile Justice System. • Funded through a cooperative grant from SAMHSA to Beaver County MH/MR/DA • Collaboration of several agencies and organizations: – Synergy Behavioral Healthcare Management, LP Project and Clinical Direction – HPW Associates, LLC Local Evaluator – The Prevention Network Family and Youth Coordination – BC-CAN Social Marketing and TA – Pressley Ridge Enhanced Family Based MH – Adelphoi Village MST – Children and Youth Services FGDM – Juvenile Services Target Population Facilitator BC SCORES Intended Outcomes • Creation and continuation of a system of care for the targeted population • Increased awareness of the impact cultural issues have on treatment • Timely and accurate screening for co-occurring disorders • Integrated service planning • Improved clinical outcomes related to mental health status and substance use; • Reduced involvement with the juvenile justice systems • Reduced incarceration and out-of-home placement and • Improved school success as indicated by attendance, school performance, and rates of suspension. 9
