• Need to find out the answer to a series of
questions--
– Was the individual on medications at the time
of the offense?
– Since being in prison has the individual been
receiving MH treatment?
– Was the offense committed against family,
close friends, or randomly?

• Is there any remorse?
• Are the individual and other participating
parties agreeable to the conditions for
entry?
• Were drugs and/or alcohol used prior to
the offense?
• Is this a repeat offense?
Ongoing concerns for working with
people who have been imprisoned:
• Considerations re: how people learn,
adapt, and recover…including those who
are physically disabled.
• Considerations re: recovery from multiple
disorders and incarceration.
• Considerations re: MH / SUD/Correctional
technologies that facilitate recovery and
transition into the Community.
Social Skills Training
• A review of the literature indicates that all
people learn idiosyncratically, but with
some commonalities that include:
– Visual Components
– Auditory Components
– Tactile Components
– Interactive Components, particularly in adults.
