• Variables affecting client’s perception of force:
– Motivation of the treatment provider--or is the
provider acting out of concern for the client?
– Respect--was there a degree of respect for the client
by the provider?
– “Voice”--or the tolerated expression of opinion
• What is perceived to work:
– Others act out of concern.
– Others act out of a sense of fairness/respect.
– Others act without deception.
– Others provide an opportunity for “voice”.
– Others take what “I” say seriously.
• These factors are highly correlated with treatment
outcomes.

MH and SUD disorders that indicate the
need for further screening and
assessment.

supplement self-report and archival
information used in screening, diagnosis,
