COSIG Co-Occurring Disorders Conference, Hershey PA, May 15-17, 2006
Conclusion
There are a variety of treatment
strategies and models ready for
infusion into clinical practice. There is
the need to develop new application
approaches based on the principles
and practices of technology transfer.
Services Integration
Services integration refers to both:
– The process of merging previously separate
clinical services into a seamless and
harmonious framework of practices at the
level of the individual.
– The delivery of integrated treatment for clients
with co-occurring disorders (COD) utilizing
various techniques.
Services Integration
Any process by which mental health and
substance abuse services are appropriately
integrated or combined at either the level of
direct contact with the individual client with
COD or between providers or programs
serving these individuals. Integrated services
can be provided by an individual clinician, a
clinical team that assumes responsibility for
providing integrated services to the client, or
an organized program that provides
appropriately integrated services by all
or teams to all clients.
Who Provides Services
Integration?
Services Integration may include
integrated clinical treatment by an
individual treatment provider or clinical
team, or COD program development by
a particular treatment program.
Services Integration: Co-
Location
Co-location of mental health and
substance abuse programs or clinicians
may facilitate the provision of integrated
services, but is neither necessary, nor
sufficient for services integration.
Systems Integration
The process by which individual systems
or collaborating systems organize
themselves to implement services
integration to clients and families with
COD as a routine practice that is
supported by system infrastructure and is
a core function of system design.
