Develop a workbook for children of MISA consumers Greenbriar has a training website with educational materials available Provider Status as of July 2002 • One inpatient & two outpatient providers were dually licensed • Three providers were evaluating the impact of dual licensure • All providers were screening individuals requesting assessments • All clients with potential to be MISA were given a SIIP and offered MISA services Client Status as of July 2002 Services began April 1, 2002 The pilot has served • 37 inpatient rehab clients • 9 women are at the Lighthouse • 21 clients are active at Spectrum with the potential to double census by months end • 16 clients are in outpatient at SPHS BH & 3 clients are in partial Training Status as of July 2002 • Nine agencies received SIIP training (30-40 individuals) • Community and provider agencies have been sending staff to the MISA Core Competencies • Providers have identified approximately 40 staff still in need of core competency training Focus for July/August 2002 • Establish monthly MISA provider meetings • Identify at least one ICM per BSU/SCA as a MISA ICM • Establish monthly MISA ICM Team Meetings • Assist providers in the process of obtaining dual licensure • Assist in the development of a men’s MISA Halfway House What We Learned 2002 Overall Average MISA client characteristics • 34-37 years of age • Caucasian • Drug use disorder/mood disorder dxs • Co-occurring medical problems • Receiving psychotropic medication • Criminal justice system involvement 10

Only Mercer County had preliminary adult MISA client outcomes. • 33% arrested and 39% incarcerated • 67% admitted to ER (75% for MH & 83% for Medication) • 92% still engaged in treatment What We Learned 2002 Washington County Barriers • Need for two licenses (MH and D/A) • Two regulatory bodies at the state level • Two different sets of licensing regulations • Two different sets of confidentiality laws What We Learned 2002 Washington County Barriers • Separate county administrative bodies • Two funding streams • Lack of program staff and administrators with MISA expertise and commitment to integrated programming What We Learned 2002 Washington County Barriers • Concern for ‘turf’ • Concern for census • Lack of Case Management services for coordination of care What We Learned 2002 Washington County Benefits • Clients could go to one location for assessment and treatment • Clients became cohesive as a group • Clients began to advocate for what they needed What We Learned 2002 Washington County Recommendations • Administration needs to consider MISA services the primary option for clients • Providers should be required by regulation and contract to assess for dual disorders and refer to integrated treatment 11
