• Review of urban development plans<br />
• Sustainable procurement<br />
• Urban – peri-urban – rural linkages<br />
b. Upgrading unplanned settlements<br />
• Affordable housing, electricity and water<br />
• Improvement of productive capacity<br />
c. Sustainable building design and construction<br />
• Training on design and construction<br />
• Development of standards and procedures<br />
• Production of environmentally sound materials, building on<br />
locally available materials<br />
<strong>The</strong> Working Group further suggested the following activities as elements of<br />
regional projects under the respective areas.<br />
Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM)<br />
a. Knowledge management<br />
• Establishment of baseline for solid waste<br />
• Best available practices on waste management policies and<br />
strategies<br />
b. Capacity building and technology transfer<br />
• Cost accounting<br />
• Waste management infrastructure<br />
• Identification, negotiation, adoption and adaptation of<br />
technology<br />
• Policy development for ISWM<br />
c. Education and support for implementation<br />
• Manuals, handbooks, guidelines on ISWM for the target group<br />
