who may be eligible candidates for <strong>the</strong> diversion program. During<br />

<strong>the</strong> interview with <strong>the</strong> clients, <strong>the</strong>y are given <strong>the</strong> opportunity to<br />

discuss various matters, personal and pr<strong>of</strong>essional, and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

areas <strong>of</strong> concern with <strong>the</strong> Pretrial Officer.<br />

DISTRICT OF ST. THOMAS-ST. JOHN<br />

During Fiscal Year <strong>2010</strong>, <strong>the</strong> Pre-Trial Intervention Program<br />

received eighteen (18) referrals for diversion and no divertees<br />

were transferred from ano<strong>the</strong>r jurisdiction. Following <strong>the</strong><br />

requisite interview and police record check, all eighteen referrals<br />

were accepted into <strong>the</strong> Pre-Trial Intervention Program.<br />

Of <strong>the</strong> eighteen (18) cases that were referred and accepted for diversion, <strong>the</strong>re were fourteen (14) Criminal cases and four (4) Jury cases.<br />

At <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> Fiscal Year 2009, <strong>the</strong>re were four (4) cases pending which included three (3) Criminal and one (1) Jury case which brought<br />

<strong>the</strong> total diversion cases to twenty-two (22) during this fiscal year.<br />

From <strong>the</strong> twenty-two (22) diversion cases, eight (8) were successfully terminated from <strong>the</strong> Pretrial Intervention Program: five (5) Criminal<br />

cases; and, three (3) Jury cases. One case was unsuccessfully terminated due to its immediate dismissal. At <strong>the</strong> end <strong>of</strong> Fiscal Year <strong>2010</strong>,<br />

<strong>the</strong>re were thirteen (13) cases pending. These cases consisted <strong>of</strong> nine (9) Criminal cases; and, four (4) Jury cases.<br />
