FAQs
1. Can the SentryLight Emergency Light be recessed in
the wall or ceiling?
Yes. The fully recessed feature can provide for a more
aesthetically appealing interior space, while also reducing
fixture replacement costs, due to vandalism.
2. Can the SentryLight Emergency Light be installed
lower on the wall, to provide safer egress in smoke
from a fire?
Yes. The SentryLight Emergency Light is UL listed and
ADA compliant for lower install heights.
3. Can the SentryLight Emergency Light also be surface
mounted, if necessary?
Yes. Our accessory, SM (surface mount back box) can be
utilized for surface mount applications, such as masonry
walls, where the SentryLight Emergency Light cannot be
fully recessed in the wall.
4. Can the SentryLight Emergency Light be customized
with paint or wallpaper?
Yes. For an even more concealed look, the front cover
plate can be painted or wallpapered. Please be sure to
follow the important instructions found in your installation
guide, to ensure safe and proper operation after painting
or wallpapering.
5. How bright is the SentryLight Emergency Light
during a power failure?
The precision 360 degree lens design and high output,
offers a bright, even spread of light over the desired
area and won’t experience dark spots, typically found
with “bug eye” type emergency lights that have a
directed spotlight effect, that can leave dark areas
between fixtures.

6. How long does the SentryLight ® Emergency Light
take to light once power is off?
Once power is disconnected or disrupted our Emergency
Light with battery backup will illuminate immediately.
7. How do I test the unit after it is installed or during
maintenance inspection.
To test existing unit when properly installed in the wall or
ceiling, depress and hold green LED/AC test switch on
front cover plate. Lamp housing will automatically extend
outward and lamps will illuminate. After test, release
green LED/AC switch to return housing to original position.
Testing schedule of emergency lighting should follow
national and local code requirements.
8. What if the SentryLight Emergency Light is not
operating properly?
Check the power first. If power is on and the green
LED/AC switch is illuminated, check the battery with a
voltmeter. If the battery is not showing a reading close to
the proper voltage (12 volt or 6 volt DC ) then the battery
should be replaced. Batteries subjected to extreme temperatures,
conditions, or exceeding the pro-rated 3 year
warranty sometimes do not work properly. Contact your
local representative for a replacement battery.
