Results<br />

The following analysis presents the conclusions of the quantitative study of the<br />

collected data. The results are presented in Table 3. and ilustrate the frequency<br />

in which question tags appear in Polish and English casual conversations.<br />

As it may be noted in Table 3. below, question tags are applied mostly by<br />

women, irrespective of the language spoken. The sample reveals that Polish<br />

women apply the specific device over twice as often as men (69% and 31% of<br />

all times respectively), while the English representatives do so even thrice more<br />

frequently (77% of all occurences). Moreover, it appears that while it is the<br />

facilitative type that is the most popular with the speakers, regardless of their<br />

gender, the softening form is adopted the least frequently.<br />

Basing solely on the raw data from Table 3. it may be concluded that women<br />

produce all types of tags more frequently than men. However, after analysing<br />

what part of all the question tags applied by a given gender the specific types<br />
