Conclusions
This study was focused on a key word of the Romanian culture, dor, and
investigated it within the frame of the Romanian society. The working
hypotheses were confirmed, in that dor can be investigated within the Romanian
society and Romanian literature and defined in NSM terms. The multitude of
definitions reflects the complexity of dor, as it had already been prompted by the
observations made on the Romanian society and on the Romanian literature.
There is much left with respect to possible further research on this term. In the
future, when a spoken Romanian language corpus becomes available, more is
expected to come up referring to the ironical use of dor. This term also invites to
performing research on its translation difficulties and stylistic aspects. The
present study is a modest contribution in investigating its semantic side and,
from the reverse angle, an application of Natural Semantic Metalanguage to the
Romanian language.
