which combines the customer magazine and the product
catalogue. In 2008, our company will celebrate its 40th anniversary,
and for this special occasion we want to give our customers
more information about our company and products. We
hope that this package helps our international readers to better
understand the Finnish sauna and cabin culture, which is
an essential part of being Finnish. On the other hand, we wish
to be known better within Finland as well, to take part in creating
the new culture of Finnish sauna and leisure building and

PREPARING YOUR OWN BATH WHISK
A birch sauna whisk is an essential part of the Finnish sauna culture.
It should be soaked in warm water so that it smells - and feels
good. the FINNS BEAT THEMSELVES WITH THIS WHISK TO STIMULATE BLOOD
CIRCULATION. IT LOOKS WORSE THAN IT IS. AND IT ACTUALLY FEELS GOOD:
1. Collect 50-60 cm long tree branches and remove the straggly twigs and dry
leaves. Make an even bundle and make sure the shiny side of the leaves stay
upwards so that the leaves won’t cling to the skin.
2. Cut off a long, thin birch shoot to tie the bundle and leave the top leaves on
it. Bend the birch shoot by turning and twisting it.
3. Push the thick end of the birch shoot through the base of the whisk bundle to
the point where leaves start. Pull the birch shoot until 10-15 cm of it is visible.
4. Wrap the birch shoot around the branches until it forms a tight loop.
5. Continue tying the base: wrap it one more time around to form a loop and
tighten. If the end of the birch shoot won’t stay at the base of the bundle, push
it below the branches. You can also use a readymade necklace of birch leaves
to tie the bundle.

to heat a Sauna
With a Woodburning Stove
Lighting the woodburning stove is easy. When
the firewood is dry, lighting the stove will take
just a few minutes.
• Pile the dry firewood horizontally. Place a
sufficient amount of firewood in the stove and
leave empty space between the wood pieces.
• Tear dry bark or newspaper that lights easily
and place it in between of the firewood.
• Light and add more firewood when necessary.
The whisks made for the winter are hung in a dry and ventilated place in order
to dry them and to keep the leaves green. The dried whisk comes alive in winter
when it is soaked in warm water. A modern way to store a whisk is to freeze it.
The best way to freeze a whisk is to wrap it tightly in plastic film. The whisk has
to be defrosted slowly so that the leaves won’t come loose during the bath.

made according to the needs of their owners. The
equipment standard of cabins ranges from simple to
luxurious. You can even work from a modern cabin and
you don’t need to make the trip to the office.

Escaping Routines
at a Cabin
For the Finns, cabin life means freedom, holidays,
doing household chores, sweet smells,
natural colours, the sounds of the forest, the
splashing of the waves and the pleasant relaxation
you feel after having been in the sauna. The
word “cabin” is associated with peace of mind,
being together and singing around a campfire.
Cabin life occurs far from city life, and has its
own eating habits and dress codes. Although
you may never listen to the radio, at the cabin
you listen to Finnish pop music and you even
tune in to the weather reports. When you reach
the cabin by car, you forget the traffic you encountered
during the trip, the complaints of the
children and the restless pets.
The children run to the stream or shore, the
dog rushes in for a swim and the cat climbs up
to its favourite sleeping spot. Everyone relaxes
in his or her own way at the cabin: by lying
down on the hammock or by chopping firewood.
If we want to be precise, the word “cabin”
means a small wooden house, the style of which
harks back to our grandparents.
Finland has a high number of cabins per capita:
there are half a million cabins in the country.
We call a modern and luxurious villa a “cabin”,
as well as a small but beloved hut. Some enjoy
simplicity and others want their cabin to
be luxurious. According to the survey taken at
the Finnish Housing Fair, the most important
features of a cabin are water access and peace.
Over 80% of the participants wanted these features
from their cabin. Other requested features
included electricity, a heat-retaining fireplace,
natural design and facilities for the winter use.

On the other hand, an Internet connection was
not considered important, even though the
Finns are otherwise living in a technological
society. Whether it is a small garden cottage
or a luxurious villa, the building material preferred
by the Finns is definitely wood, which
goes perfectly with the natural setting.
The cabins evidence their owner’s taste in
landscaping. Some love creeping plants and
wild flora, while others prefer well-kept lawns.
At the cabin, everyone is his or her own master,
and the cabin reflects the needs and taste
of its owner.
WATER SPORTS AND BUSINESS CALLS
I have spent my holidays at a cabin on an island
all my life. The water is pumped to the cabin
from the lake and an outdoor toilet is still
standing on one lonely corner of the island.
The fridge and oven are gas powered and in the
winter, the cabin is heated with stoves. For centuries,
the cabin was illuminated with beautiful
oil lamps, but some years ago, a wind generator
was built on the windy rock of the island, and
together with the solar panels, this transmits
more than enough electricity. And I must admit:
I hit the switch to turn on the light, though
I swore I would always use the oil lamps.
Slowly, small facilities arrive to our island - facilities
that I did not even know I was missing.
Even as a child, I looked at my friend’s “cabin”
with astonishment: it was better equipped
than many city apartments. Their cabin was
a fully-equipped modern house, which was
called a “cabin” because it was by a lake and it
was used only during the summer. Nevertheless,
the most important thing for a cabin is to
fulfill the needs of its owner.
With today’s technological development,
cabin life has naturally taken on some urban
features. I still remember the times when
it was not possible to make phone calls from
our island. Now mobile phones are charged
with wind and solar energy and the computer
is whirring in the panoramic room. Thanks to
technological developments, it is now possible
to work from the cabin, and taking your work
to the peninsulas and valleys– and islands - is
now perfectly normal.
In fact, many advertisements present new
technology with a lake scene in the background.
It is nice to work in lovely surroundings,
enjoying the quiet of nature while an espresso
machine makes the morning coffee and
you sleep in a comfortable waterbed.
We have actually worked from our island for
years. In the summer, my husband goes to the
sauna by the lake wearing only a swimsuit and
toting his mobile phone. Sometimes he takes
a computer, if he has scheduled a meeting on
the phone with his foreign colleagues. The sauna
is the best place for the occasion, as the loud
seagulls and the children playing in the water
might be a bit distracting for the other participants.
After business calls, it is nice to dive into
the crystal clear lake water. And if you are
afraid that work will ruin the atmosphere at
the cabin, you can leave your work tools back
in your city apartment. Every cabin reflects its
owners personal style.

1 WHAT IS IMPORTANT WHEN CHOOSING
A SAUNA STOVE?
When choosing a sauna stove, you should take into
consideration the wall materials. Heating concrete,
logs, glass and tile requires relatively high stove
power and time. The ceiling and the walls of the
sauna room should be well-insulated. When choosing
the sauna stove, you should know the capacity
of the sauna room. When the capacity is near
the limit values, it is better to choose a stove with a
higher power output rather than choosing a stove
that may be too small.
2 HOW MANY TIMES A WEEK YOU CAN
ENJOY THE SAUNA?
If you have time to enjoy the sauna every day, you
should. Daily sauna bathing does not harm your
health, as many Finnish sauna lovers prove by taking
time for the sauna every day.
3 HOW LONG CAN YOU STAY IN THE SAUNA?
You can stay in the sauna as long as it feels good.
It all depends on you and on how much experience
you have in sauna bathing. 10 min is often said to
be the maximum time, but this is actually the minimum
time you should stay in the sauna.
4 CAN YOU THROW WATER ON THE STOVE
WITHOUT DAMAGING it?
Most of the stoves are made for this, and they are
water and moisture-proof. The amount of water depends
solely on the person.
5 HOW DO YOU USE SAUNA HONEY?
Honey is traditionally used for skin care and beauty.
It softens, moisturises and cleans skin effectively.
Spread sauna honey in the sauna on warm and
slightly moisturised skin (you can spread it on your
whole body). Let your skin absorb the honey for
approx. 10 - 15 minutes in mild sauna heat. Rinse
with warm water. Store the honey at room temperature.
Cabin Life Even in Wintertime
The Managing Director of Lagerholm
Finnsauna, Timo Kaalikoski, has noticed
that the new generation demands more
facilities on their cabin.
“It is no longer enough to just relax on the
cabin porch. The new generation looks for
experiences. People want a relatively high
standard of cabin equipment.”
Life at the cabin is also attractive in the
winter. You can enjoy quality time out
in the nature even when it is freezing
outside.
“Nowadays the cabins are made also for
winter use. Many consider their cabin as
their second homes,” Timo explains.

2-3 slices per person
• 8 ripe tomatoes
• 3/4 dl virgin Canola oil
• 2 tins of anchovies (45g)
– strained and cut lengthwise
• Black pepper
1. Roast the bread slices on both sides
until lightly brown.
2. Rub halved garlic onto the warm
bread slices.
3. Cut the tomatoes in small cubes and
pile them on top of the bread slices.
4. Spread some oil on the bread slices
and lay the anchovy fillets crosswise.
5. Grind some fresh pepper on
the bread slices.

6 HOW OFTEN SHOULD
YOU CHANGE THE Sauna STONES?
The interval depends on how often the stove is used.
Normally when you enjoy the sauna a few times a
week, it is sufficient to change the stones once a year.
You should place the stones so that air circulates well
between them. You can change the position of the
stones from time to time, as they are crushed and
tighten during use and can prevent air circulation.
7 are SAUNAS delivered WITH a FLOOR?
Lagerholm Finnsauna’s indoor saunas are delivered
without a floor. Panel element saunas are built on
base beams; in the log saunas, the lowest wall logs
form the base for the framework. For outdoor saunas,
the floor boards are included.
8 ON WHAT KIND OF SURFACE CAN an
INDOOR SAUNA BE BUILT?
An indoor sauna can be built on flat surfaces; recommended
surfaces include tiles or PVC plastic. It
is important that the surface is level (small inclinations,
however, can be resolved during the assembly).
A floor drain in the sauna room is not indispensable,
as the amount of water used in the sauna
is low. The floor drain, however, makes it easier to
keep the sauna clean.
9 HOW MUCH EMPTY SPACE DO YOU HAVE TO
LEAVE AROUND THE SAUNA?
Normally, approx. 5 cm around the walls and approx.
10 cm above the ceiling. You should also consider
the space required by the assembly.
10 WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED HEIGHT
FOR SAUNA ROOMS?
Normally, approx. 200 cm, however at least 190 cm
and not more than 240 cm. You should always take
into consideration the safety distances of the sauna
stove. If the sauna room has a high ceiling, the heat
distribution in the sauna is no longer optimal.

Lagerholm Finnsauna Oy has been producing saunas for the past
40 years. The company creates unique sauna experiences by responding
to today’s challenges while looking towards the future.

Merja Malinen-Kohvakka has been working for the Lagerholm Finnsauna Oy for the past 11 years.
“The job is very interesting and there is always something new.”
Lagerholm Finnsauna Oy produces personalised
cabins, saunas and supplementary products
that are ready to be installed directly from
the factory. The sauna concept is spreading
around the world and Managing Director Timo
Kaalikoski and Marketing Manager Merja Malinen-Kohvakka
are playing important roles in
the process. In this business, it is important to
have a sense of humour while maintaining a
brisk work pace, as Finnish work teams often
do. Strategy plans are drafted by considering future
trends and by avoiding investments that are
too high. At the beginning of the millennium,
Timo opted not to compete in mass sauna production,
where sales are based on low prices.
“It is not profitable for a company of this size
to produce bulk products,” he states.
The company’s strength, in fact, is based on
personalised, high-quality products.
“We produce less, but profitably. Even though
our products are personalised, our prices are
not the highest on the market,” Kaalikoski
points out.
Lagerholm Finnsauna Oy has 27 regular
employees, though additional staff is required
during the high season. Sales Manager Carola
Lindholm has been working for the company
since 1972.
“First we had four employees, including
Managing Director Svante Lagerholm, who was
almost always away on business trips. There
were three of us running the company here in
Finland.”
According to Carola Lindholm, the company
spirit has never changed. “We have very close
relations to our customers: in some cases, they
have even become friends. Still, at the managing
level, you have to be able to handle all sorts
of tasks.”
“This work requires flexibility. Depending on
the situation, we are architects, electrical engineers
and even psychologists,” Merja laughs.
The Lagerholm Finnsauna staff believes in
the purely Finnish sauna and cabin culture and
is passionate about what it does: in addition to
wholesalers, the Lagerholm staff has created a
network of smaller dealers.
“The customers are loyal to our products. We
want to live up to their expectations, and that is
why we work continuously to earn their trust.”
RESPONSIBLE PRODUCT
DEVELOPMENT
The product ranges of Lagerholm Finnsauna –
including saunas, cabins and their supplementary
products – have remained basically the
same while taking into consideration market
trends. The needs and tastes of people change,
and to be able to respond to the needs of the
consumer in the best way, constant innovation
is necessary. Developers have to stay one step
ahead of the latest trends. Ideas often come in
the middle of the daily rush, and they are then
developed during brainstorming and at meetings.
“There is a new generation of demanding
customers. People tend to seek more experiences
today. And that’s what we want to give
them,” says Timo, describing the product development.
In addition to quality, the company pays attention
to the environmental issues in product
development. Lagerholm Finnsauna respects
nature in its production.
“The timber we use is controlled, totally
PEFC labelled. The wood waste is further processed.
The sawdust we produce is used to make
pellets for the heating needs of small households.”
Wood is still the only right material for cabin
and sauna builders. Lagerholm Finnsauna
trusts the Finnish spruce. It is the number one
material.
“Spruce grows slowly, and that is why it is
solid and compact. We also use pine, aspen,
heat-treated aspen and red alder. However, we
gave up abachi for environmental reasons.”
Fine results can be obtained with spruce and
aspen as well. Small but important features include
the design of the sauna benches and back
rests. The wood is placed crosswise and inclined,
making each and every sauna unique.
The windows and doors are used to create the
atmosphere. The details create the sauna spirit

that there are no strange meanings. My own favourite
is the Cappuccino sauna. The name is
associated with specific, pleasant images,” Merja
says.

“Their role is extremely important. In the
end, they are the ones who reach the customer,”
Timo notes.
GOING LOCAL IN EVERY COUNTRY
For foreigners, enjoying the sauna can be an exotic
experience. After reading the instructions for use, you
should listen to your body. Everyone enjoys sauna in his
or her own way.

Timo enjoys time in the sauna almost daily.
Also Merja relaxes in the sauna heat every other
day. Having a sauna is not a recent trend for
her: it is also a trip to her past.
“I love the sauna with a woodburning stove.
It reminds me of my childhood home and the
moments when we heated the sauna. I would
watch the smoke coming out while sitting on
a swing. You could smell the smoke long after
the saunabath.”
CREATIVITY AND THE JOY OF DOING
95% of the Lagerholm Finnsauna’s production
is exported. The company has customers in approx.
50 different countries who receive the
saunas and cabins directly from the Lagerholm
Finnsauna’s factory. Timo carefully follows the
development of the production machines.
“Modern machines are important in our production.
We have to invest in them in the future
as well,” he explains.
Naturally, establishing customer relations is
the top priority of the company. Trade shows
and events are important for the business.
“We participate in the most important international
fairs in the sector. We encourage our
partners to participate in exhibitions held in
their area.”
When it comes to marketing cabins and saunas,
the name is crucial. An international company
must carefully weigh the names of its

The work load sometimes requires up to three shifts.
Lagerholm Finnsauna Oy has been a successful
sauna producer on international markets for
the past 40 years. Naturally, the company takes
into consideration different habits and cultures
abroad. According to Managing Director Timo
Kaalikoski, being a Finn is a plus – especially
when you are exporting saunas.
“Finland is neutral, and it is considered one
of the reliable Northern countries. Finland has
a good reputation in the international trade -
and for good reasons,” says a smiling Timo.
International partners and customers generally
have a good image of Finnish companies.
It is good to sit down to negotiate in a trustworthy
setting and establish new business relations.
Marketing Manager Merja Malinen-Kohvakka
knows from experience that it can take
years to establish a good international business
relationship.
“I was on holiday in Dubai when I made an
appointment to meet a customer in order to
present our products. We received the first order
two years later. Since then, sales have been
growing steadily.”
The Arab countries order large saunas and
require personalised solutions. Lagerholm
Finnsauna does not give up easily when assessing
the order of a demanding customer.
“If the order is impossible to fill, we seek to
respond to the challenge by offering a personalised
solution. The solution has to be studied
together with the customer so that the result is
functional,” says Merja.
While Finns were born to use saunas, having
a sauna is still new to some cultures. The true
Finnish sauna is often an exotic experience for
many foreigners, and they require instructions
along with the delivery. And they are provided
with one.
“We give advice on how you should use the
sauna. We propose being in the sauna for 15 minutes,
and then we recommend cooling off your
own way. And then back to the shower and sauna,
and so on. We recommend heating the sauna
to 60–80 o Celsius, but everyone determines what
temperature is right for him or her.”
The Finns might find these instructions
strange, as many of them have enjoyed the
warmth of the sauna since they were babies.
Merja hopes that foreigners realize that the instructions
are only indicative.
“Everyone should listen to his or her own
body. Your body tells you if you are enjoying
the sauna correctly. The objective is to relax and
be in peace.”
Following the instructions too closely can also
lead to reduced sauna use, as some may think
you need at least a few hours to enjoy the sauna.
“Keeping your eye on the watch might be
stressful when enjoying the sauna. You can stay
in the sauna for just five minutes if you like.
Even a short visit to the sauna revitalises and
relaxes you,” Merja notes.
SAUNA EVEN DURING THE SUMMER HEAT
As we all know, the habits of different cultures
vary significantly but cultural differences won’t
influence the use of the sauna very much. Public
saunas normally have different sections for
women and men, just like in Finland. Many of
the people living in countries with a hot climate
wonder why you would ever go to the sauna.
Merja has the answer:
“On a hot day, going to the sauna is a refreshing
experience. You get revitalised in the sauna.”
Timo underlines the most important objective
of the sauna: cleansing your body.
“Being in the sauna gets you clean even when
it is hot outside. If you go to the sauna after
a jog, you will definitely get cleaner than you
would in the shower,” he explains.
The pictures in the sauna product catalogues
vary depending on the local culture. In Finland,
people go to the sauna naked, so the pictures
naturally show more nudity. This is not the only
way to depict the positive features of saunas,
however.
“We do not show too much nudity in our
pictures. Instead, we seek to bring out the relaxing
and revitalising effect of the sauna in different
ways,” Timo says.
Some environmentally active customers have
asked why saunas are not totally sealed. The heat
escapes in the current way and energy might
be wasted.
“The ventilation and humidity do raise several
questions. Some people might be afraid to
throw water on the sauna stones. This is when
we tell about the sauna’s effects and we emphasise
that the sauna stoves have been produced
and tested especially for humid sauna conditions.
Everyone can decide whether or not to
throw water on the stones.”
Lagerholm Finnsauna’s staff is used to taking
into consideration the cultural differences
of international guests when asked to familiarise
them with the company’s products in Finland.
“Some find it fascinating to wander in the
Finnish forests, while others prefer the hotel’s
nightclub. We seek to organise a successful
FAM trip to Finland in every case.”

THE LONG TRADITIONS OF the FINNISH SAUNA
Sauna
– Part of the Finnish Identity
Many who have not yet been introduced to the sauna
culture wonder how the Finns can sweat in a hot
wooden chamber and then cool off in the lake,
snow or even by jumping in a hole in the ice.
But the Finns can’t imagine anything better.

For the Finns, the sauna is as much a part of the
normal life as wine is for the French. In summertime,
we have the sunshine that slowly heats
the water drops on our skin. In winter, we enjoy
a candle-lit sauna, with white snow and translucent
steam coming off of our skin against the
black dark sky. These are all the things that a
sauna brings to mind for the Finns.
When the Finns imagine a sauna, it is still by
the lake and surrounded by birch trees. In Finland,
the climate is dark and cool most of the
year. And that is when sauna is at its best. During
the winters, a sauna warms the cold bodies.
It massages the body and is soothing for the
soul. The sauna can be compared to a ritual,
to a physical and mental cleansing, after which
you feel reborn. An essential part of enjoying
the sauna during the winter is either tumbling
in the snow or ice-swimming – or at least cooling
off outdoors.
2,000 YEARS AGO
The sauna tradition dates back over 2,000 years
in Finland. Saunas were also common in Central
Europe. But the sauna culture collapsed in
the 16th and 17th centuries, when it was believed
that syphilis could be spread through
saunas. In Finland, the sauna was never banned.
The Finns have given births and accompanied
the deceased on their last trip in the saunas. We
have also dried linen, smoked meat and prepared
beer in the saunas.
Besides bathing, saunas have been used to
cure ailments. Cupping, in particular, used to
be common. Sweating was also thought to have
positive health effects. Besides being a place as-

sociated with health, the sauna was also a sacred
place.
Saunas generally used to be smoke saunas
and some were even underneath the ground at
the beginning. When the Finns discovered the
methods of log building, the sauna was built
above the ground.
Nowadays, smoke saunas are a rare pleasure.
Even though they have become popular once
again, there are no smoke saunas for public use
in any Finnish cities.
UNWRITTEN RULES
The Finns traditionally go to the sauna with
family members. Many generations head to
the sauna together, men first and then women.
When there are guests, you also go to the sauna
separately: men and women take their turns.
In Central Europe, you find public saunas
open to both men and women. That might be a
bit odd to the Finns, as men and women enter
the sauna separately at Finnish public saunas.
Whatever the sauna company is, there are
some unwritten rules that the Finns learn at an
early age:
In the sauna, you do not argue, raise your
voice or disturb others. You don’t throw water
on the stove if others find it unpleasant.
You do not talk about politics – unless you
happen to be on the same side. The others
present must always be taken into consideration.
If you are in the sauna alone, you can, of
course, do whatever you want – whether that
means singing at the top of your lungs or horsing
around any other way.
FLAILING WITH WHISKS
Newer sauna products have also arrived to Finland
in the past few years: different essential
oils to set an atmosphere, and to relax and cure.
Some consider them unimportant, but the traditional
whisk has remained popular. You can
replace the homemade whisk with a storebought
one or even with a frozen whisk. Product
development also involves this traditional
product.
Flailing the whisk astonishes foreign guests,
making them wonder if this is the way forest
people atone for their sins. It looks, however, a
bit wilder than it is.
The sauna has seen many different historical
moments. It has survived plague and wars,
moved from the countryside to the cities and
returned to its original format. Sauna has maintained
its popularity and its purposes have only
expanded with the time.
In Finland, there are no sports clubs or sewing
circles, no work teams or activity groups
that would not organise their own sauna evenings.
The sauna evening can include almost anything
– laughing and grilling sausages or meditation
in the candle light and low temperatures.
EVEN THOUGH WE ALL KNOW that
sauna is not about competition, you
have the sauna world championships. A
regular sauna user should not play with
the excessive heat but exercise good
judgment instead. A few beers won’t do
you any harm, but sauna and excessive
drinking is a bad combination.
CHILDREN CAN BE IN THE SAUNA, as long
as you remember that they get warmer
faster than adults. You have to be prudent
when taking children under 7 into the
sauna. You can add water to the stove,
but ten minutes is enough for a small
child; on the lower benches, they can stay
longer.
THE PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF THE
WHISKS have not been studied, but its
use seems to induce additional sweating
and speed up blood circulation, thus
contributing to the heating effect of
the sauna. According to the information
passed from generation to generation, the
whisks have many healthy effects and can
be used to treat different problems and to
relieve itching – some claim that you can
even predict your future with the whisk.
Greetings from
the Sauna Society!
People often ask the Finnish Sauna Society what to tell foreigners about
sauna use. The Sauna Society recommends the following – these are,
however, only indicative.
• Take enough time to enjoy the sauna.
• Prior to entering the sauna, take a shower.
• It is good to use a sitting pad.
• 80–90° Celsius is sufficient for the sauna, though the sauna can be up to
100°C. You increase the humidity by throwing water onto the sauna stove.
• After you are thoroughly heated, cool off.
• Spend a while in the sauna before using the whisks.
• Competition is unhealthy and it is not suitable for the sauna.
• You can repeat the sauna-cool down process as many times as you like.
Stay in the sauna as long as it feels good.
• It is not recommendable to go from a hot sauna to freezing cold
temperatures. If you have any health-related questions, consult
your physician.
• Before washing, warm up. After washing, you can still return to the sauna.
• The sauna process ends with a cool rinse.
• After the sauna, relax and drink something refreshing.
• Don’t get dressed until you have stopped sweating.
• The sauna should be left clean.
• Avoid alcohol and heavy meals before or during your time in the sauna.
• After the sauna, you can enjoy something light to eat and
a refreshing drink.

with Infrared Radiation

In addition to the normal saunas, the infrared
rooms are popular places for wellbeing and relaxation.
The temperature of the infrared rooms
is pleasant, approx. 45–50° Celsius and they
heat up quickly: the room is ready for use in
about twenty minutes after being switched on.
You can heat it up, for example, while stretching
after sports: this way, your body will be
soothed by the heat of the infrared radiation
and your exercise session will end pleasantly.
The rays of the infrared rooms warm your skin
where needed. In the infrared radiation, your
body temperature rises quickly to 38.5° Celsius,
penetrating your muscles and tissue while softening
them gently. The infrared room is easy
to install, as it does not require a water connection.
It is recommended, however, that the
room is installed near a shower or bath so that
taking a shower is easy after the treatment. In
the Finninfra rooms of Lagerholm Finnsauna,
the length of the infrared rays are 4,000–4,500
nm, which is ideal to guarantee comfortable
and safe use. This ray length is safe and it won’t
damage body tissue. However, you should consult
your physician before buying or using an
infrared room.

A Log Sauna Without Corner Overlaps
Lumme saunas are made only of 45 mm thick logs without corner overlaps.
The particular characteristic of the Lumme sauna is the “dovetail” structure
of its logs. This structure eliminates the need for traditional corner overlaps,
as the logs are installed to the metallic rails on the corner posts. This allows
for several different corner solutions; if, for example, there are specific
requirements for the sauna room due to the space available.
The tie-rods through the logs make the structure solid. The bronze-tinted
glass door is always included in the delivery. The door can be hung left or
right. The soft-line interior of the sauna is made of aspen.
The Lumme saunas are available in 11 different standard sizes and special

A Traditional Log Sauna with a
Modern Design
The Joutsen Royal is a perfect sauna made of 45 mm
spruce logs. The log frame has ready-made holes for
the supporting rods and tie rods. The royal interior
of the sauna is made of beautifully designed aspen.
Depending on the size of the sauna, the package includes
2-3 benches, backrest(s), stove guard rail, duckboards
and headrests. The ceiling elements are fully insulated,
panelled and have additional sealing strips.
The Royal sauna is completed with an arched bronze
glass door and a window. The door is normally hung
right, but it can be delivered hung left as well.
By following the assembly instructions, the sauna room
is easy to assemble. Only the stove and the installation
of the separate control box merits the assistance of an
authorised professional electrician.
Top trims and U- trims to cover the log ends are available

ROMA 2001 - Steam Rooms
An ideal supplement for a sauna, or total relaxation of Roman-style.
With steam, breathing is easy. Steam can help cure illnesses (e.g. rheumatism, infections
of respiratory organs, muscle strains, etc.). Not to mention the cosmetic benefits of hot
steam.
The steam rooms are made of ABS-reinforced 8 mm thick acrylic sheets. The thickness of
the seat is approx. 16 mm. Colour: white. The vent below the door and the adjustable
outlet valve in the ceiling ensure sufficient ventilation.
The delivery includes the necessary equipment, steam nozzles (the number of the
nozzles vary according to the size of the steam room), a low voltage lamp with matt
glass cover, an adjustable duct vent, a base frame made of aluminium profile and all
other fixings.
The insulation material, outer wall facing and flooring are not included in the delivery.

IMPORTANT ADVICE FOR PLANNING AND INSTALLATION

(Tiled floors are recommended)

• The steam room is installed from the outside, so you should
leave at least 50 cm of free space on two sides of the steam room
• The steam generator should be placed in a moisture-proof and
well-ventilated location, away from noise (the device produces heat)
• Voltage 400 V 3 phase
• A permanent cold water supply with 2 to 5 bar pressure is available
• A water treatment system must be installed in hard water area
(always recommended for public steam rooms)
• The steam generator should be installed no more than 5 m away

Infrared cabin - easy to place, easy to use
The infrared rays of an infrared cabin warm your skin where needed.
The difference between an infrared cabin and a sauna is that infrared
rays heat the body and muscles rather than heating the surrounding air,
as occurs in the traditional sauna. In the Lagerholm Finnsauna’s infrared
cabins, the length of the infrared rays are 4,000 – 4,500 nm, so infrared
cabins are safe and comfortable, as the rays won’t penetrate the tissue
too deeply.
However, you should consult your physician about any health-related
limitation before using the infrared cabin.
It is easy to install an infrared cabin, as no water connection is needed.
The electric connections have been made in the factory, and the
Finninfra cabins work on a plug-in basis. For a maximum comfort, the
infrared cabin should be placed near the shower. The infrared cabin is
ready for use in approx. 20 minutes. The heat is automatically turned off
if the temperature exceeds 50°C (122°F).
Lagerholm Finninfra infrared cabins are available in two different
models and in four different sizes. The walls and the straight elements
of the Finninfra Elegant are made of chipboard sheets and the curved
corner elements of metal. The Finninfra Variant is made of panel
elements where light and dark heat-treated aspen has been combined in
the outer walls. The internal walls are made of spruce and the seats get
their particular looks from light abach and heat-treated aspen.
The Variant infrared cabins are available in three different sizes.
The standard delivery includes an IRC6 control box and 4-5 infrared
heaters depending on the cabin type. In addition to these features, the
Elegant model has two IR150W heat lamps for the feet. A separate light
is not necessary for the cabin as the light provided by the heaters is
sufficient.
LIGHT THERAPY THERALUX
While maintaining the sauna tradition, Lagerholm Finnsauna
wants to spread the sauna culture internationally while
fulfilling the requirements of today’s modern consumers.
One example of this is the light therapy, which can make
the sauna experience even more relaxing. Make your sauna

therapy. The Lagerholm Theralux light therapy consists of

STEEL PIPES AND FIREPLACE HEAT SHIELDS AND FLOOR BEDDING
The stylish steel pipes are intended mostly for woodburning stoves and fireplaces, and they resist even
drastic temperature changes. The standard delivery includes one 1.5 m steel pipe (WHP1500) and an
accessory box with a rain hat, a rubber rain collar and a steel lead-through collar to the ceiling. The
delivery package also includes a 1 m non-insulated smoke pipe. The stainless steel smoke pipe can be
lengthened with 0.5 (WHP500) and 1.0 m (WHP1000) extenders. The installation height of the steel
pipe is 5 m maximum.

The heat shields are made of painted, aluminium-galvanised steel plate. It effectively prevents direct
heat radiation from damaging materials and with it, you can significantly decrease the safety distance.
The heat shields are approved for the Finntree M3 and Finntree 20 Pro stoves.
The floor bedding is available as an additional accessory and is used when
the heat shields are installed on a wood floor.
