Rock Out To Knock Out RSD
“Imagine a day, an hour, or even a minute
without pain; that is what we are fighting
so hard for...”
This statement is true for CRPS sufferers
everywhere, but Ashley Goodall has taken
her fight into another direction. In 2006,
Ashley founded ‘Rock Out To Knock Out
RSDS, Inc.,’ a non-profit organization
meant to raise awareness and money for
CRPS research through concerts with
local bands, drawings, and donations.
2007 Bounty of Hope
On November 14th, a little more than
200 people gathered at the Union League
Club in New York City for the 9th Annual
Bounty of Hope Silent Auction and
Fundraising Dinner. Joshua Prager,
MD, MS, the director of the Center for
Rehabilitation of Pain Syndromes (CRPS)
at UCLA Medical Plaza, was the keynote
speaker and recipient of a Clinical
Excellence Award. Next year’s dinner is
scheduled for November 12, 2008.
The 16-year-old high school student from
Bakersfield, California was diagnosed
with CRPS when she was 8. Before
Ashley was diagnosed, she spent 7 years
visiting over 10 doctors, and almost had
her arm amputated due to a misdiagnosis.
At one point, the pain was so excruciating
that she stopped going to school. Some
people even started to think she was
making up her syndrome, increasing the
frustration of Ashley’s loved ones.
Although the idea had been several years in
the making, Ashley raised $5000 at the first
Rock Out concert last October. This year
she raised $3000 even before the concert
in San Luis Obispo, from people who just
wanted to help Ashley and her cause. Half
of the proceeds go towards future concerts,
such as the next one in Los Angeles.
Money raised by Rock Out in the past has
gone towards a RSDSA walk, medical
equipment for a CRPS patient, research
for the Pediatric Pain Program at the
University of California Los Angeles
Mattel Children’s Hospital, and raising
awareness. For more information on
