FREEDOM
FROM FEAR
karla driskill
Independent Consultant, National Vice President
Karla Driskill Nation; Stillwater, OK
Courage is not the absence of fear — it is taking action in spite of fear —
moving against the resistance engendered by fear, into the unknown and
into the future. This philosophy characterizes my life. Prior to September
of 2003, I was totally controlled and driven by my fears. I was afraid of
failure, afraid of change and even afraid of success. When I launched my
Arbonne business, I made a decision to move out of my comfort zone and
face my fears. My desire to change my life was greater than my fears.
I was tired of wishing and hoping for a different life, so I decided to
create one.
When my sister, ENVP Rachele Nichols, introduced me to the products, I
was thoroughly convinced of the products’ benefits, but I was in no way
convinced that I could embrace a business of my own. My husband and
I were in full-time ministry and I home-schooled our four children. “Busy”
was an understatement when used in conjunction with our home. I could
not imagine squeezing one more minute into my life, let alone a business.
However, my husband, RVP Ron Driskill, caught the vision for this business
and said, “Honey, our lives will never be any different if we don’t make
this work.”
When the pain of remaining the same is greater than the pain of change,
you change. So, we jumped in with both feet in January of 2004 to start
this business. It was painful to make the necessary sacrifices to ensure this
business would succeed, but I knew they were only short term. No other
business could provide the possibility of time and financial freedom like
Arbonne. I believed this would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. God
gave us the freedom and we have never regretted our choice.
In January of 2005, my husband was faced with the choice of working
more hours away from our family with no pay raise, or relinquishing his
position as a collegiate minister at a major university. Thanks to Arbonne,
he was able to choose his family. We realized we only have our children
with us for a short time, and we wanted to make the most of that time. I
once read that you only live once, but if you work it right, once is enough.
I can now not only serve people’s emotional and spiritual needs, but can
also provide a vehicle for potentially meeting their financial needs. Our
family can also give more to our church in a month than we were able
to give in a year, not to mention helping friends in ministry. While I have
never viewed Arbonne as our purpose in life, I certainly see it as a powerful
vehicle that allows us to fulfill our created purpose. It gives us the
potential time time and financial freedom to pursue our dreams and help
others make their dreams into a reality.
I truly believe anyone can be successful with this business if they are willing
to build their business based on courage, faith, pride and hard
work. We have met many obstacles on the road to success, but have
made the choice to use our dreams to propel us past them.
I know I could have never made it to Nation without the help of an unbelievable
team.
I want to first thank my sister, ENVP Rachel Nichols and her husband,
RVP Jerry Nichols: You have provided the wind beneath my wings. You
have supported and encouraged Ron and me by modeling not only
incredible leadership, but also true family commitment. We are forever
in your debt.
To Rick and Michelle Teague: Thank you for freely sharing your
friendship and experience. You are pillars in this business and role
models for us all.
To ERVP Karrie Woods: I would have given in to despair many times
had it not been for your prayers and encouragement.
To EAM Zanna Wallace: You have kept me going with your unbelievable
organizational and administrative gifts.
To all my AMs and DMs: You guys certainly raise the bar concerning
team effort and spirit. You are the foundation of this business.
To my unbelievable children Tyler, Alyse, Laurel and Lane: Thank
you sweet angels for going the extra mile, for keeping the house
clean and organized, and for sacrificing your time to help daddy
Thank you to my husband, RVP Ron Driskill: You have provided the
strength and stability of character, and the steady, rational leadership
necessary to change the direction of our lives. You have always
And thanks most of all to God for His faithfulness and blessings. The
one constant prayer of my life is to bring Him glory in every area of
my life because life is truly all about Him and His purposes.
