Rosetta Stone s<strong>of</strong>tware: Rosetta Stone is now in the Foreign Language Lab to aid<br />
students <strong>of</strong> French, Spanish, Japanese, German, and L<strong>at</strong>in.<br />
Use <strong>of</strong> Tell-Me-More: This website is employed in all lower-level French<br />
classes. It allows instructors to monitor student use and progress and has<br />
technologically advanced fe<strong>at</strong>ures like voice recognition to help students to<br />
enunci<strong>at</strong>e properly.<br />
Expansion <strong>of</strong> French <strong>of</strong>ferings: Dr. Lesly Jean-Francois now <strong>of</strong>fers French<br />
Cinema on a regular rot<strong>at</strong>ion and will begin <strong>of</strong>fering Survey <strong>of</strong> French liter<strong>at</strong>ure<br />
Fall Semester 2012.<br />
Expansion <strong>of</strong> Spanish <strong>of</strong>ferings: Additional upper-level Spanish electives are<br />
being <strong>of</strong>fered to accommod<strong>at</strong>e Modern Language majors and Spanish minors.<br />
Expansion <strong>of</strong> Japanese <strong>of</strong>ferings: Yukiko Shepherd, adjunct instructor, is now<br />
<strong>of</strong>fering Japanese III and Japanese IV in addition to continuing to <strong>of</strong>fer Japanese I<br />
and II.<br />
8. How do you ensure shared responsibility for student learning and <strong>assessment</strong><br />
among students, faculty, and other stakeholders?<br />

Student Self Assessment: All students in all Spanish classes self-assess their<br />
abilities in rel<strong>at</strong>ion to the Expected Student Learning Outcomes.<br />
Faculty Meetings: Although there is no set calendar for faculty meetings, the<br />
faculty and Dean, as well as adjuncts and FLTAs meet frequently (<strong>at</strong> least once a<br />
month) to discuss special activities such as the Foreign Film Festival,<br />
technological needs, curriculum revisions, and scheduling <strong>of</strong> classes.<br />
Str<strong>at</strong>egic Planning: Cre<strong>at</strong>ing, implementing, and reviewing a Str<strong>at</strong>egic Plan for the<br />
School <strong>of</strong> Arts and Humanities represent a culmin<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> discussion,<br />
observ<strong>at</strong>ions, and analysis on the part <strong>of</strong> the faculty in regard to how SAH might<br />
better serve students. The foreign-language faculty have submitted several goals<br />
to the SAH str<strong>at</strong>egic plan as part <strong>of</strong> UAM‟s str<strong>at</strong>egic plan. See Appendix D.<br />
Foreign Language Honor Society: The meetings and activities <strong>of</strong> this organiz<strong>at</strong>ion<br />
enhance communic<strong>at</strong>ion between students and faculty and thereby influence<br />
decisions such as purchasing new technologies to improve instruction and<br />
<strong>of</strong>fering new courses.
