<strong>2011</strong> ANNUAL REPORT<br />
By law, <strong>Watercare</strong> is required to manage its operations efficiently with a view to keeping the<br />
overall costs of water supply and wastewater services to its customers at minimum levels.<br />
The company does not operate to make a profit and it is prohibited by statute from paying<br />
a dividend to its owner, Auckland Council. Efficiencies generated through the establishment<br />
of a single water company have seen retail prices fall, and 1,000 litres of mains-connected water<br />
now costs $1.30 anywhere in Auckland. <strong>Watercare</strong> continues to strive for efficiency gains in all<br />
aspects of its business while ensuring reliable services continue to be delivered to customers.<br />
