Celebrating Your Stampin’ Up! Accomplishments from January through March 2007 Vol. 7 Issue 4

Recently, I surprised myself by 

taking an hour-and-a-half nap 

on a Sunday afternoon. Some 

people might enjoy this quite 

often; in fact, a nap might 

even be a normal part of their 

weekend routine. But I almost 

never take naps, and on the 

rare occasions when I do, they 

are quick catnaps, not hourlong 

snoozes. 

On this day, however, I woke 

up feeling like a new person, 

and I realized my body was 

trying to tell me something. 

“Hey, pay attention and give me a break. You don’t need 

to push me so hard. I need a little rest and relaxation, and 

more than five minutes would sure be nice!” 

We need to listen to our minds and bodies when they send 

us these messages. We all need moments—and sometimes 

days—of renewal. We spend a lot of time and effort 

shouldering responsibilities and checking off to-do lists and 

meeting deadlines and caring for others. Living life can be 

exhausting, and taking breaks when possible is crucial if we 

want to enjoy the journey. 

Of course, key to enjoying renewal is recognizing what 

renewal is; renewal means different things to different 

people, depending on our personal preferences and the 

season in which we find ourselves. Recently, I had lunch 

with a friend who has three young children, including a 

nursing baby. As we finished eating, she remarked how 

wonderful the break had been. While I also enjoyed our 

time together, I sensed that it been much more refreshing 

for her, because she has little time to herself these days. 

I remember those days well, when even a few stolen 

moments in the bathroom were sweet solitude. I wouldn’t 

give up those days for anything—family is the most 

important thing in my life. But children do demand a lot 

of time and attention. 

These days our girls aren’t nearly as time-consuming as 

they once were, but I find myself still needing a break from 

other things clamoring for my attention. I love what I do, 

but it can be exhausting. For me, short breaks from my 

regular responsibilities work wonders. 

I know other people who plan weeklong vacations. While 

those longer getaways can sometimes tire me out, other 

people write them on the calendar and anticipate them for 

weeks, even months. And they return completely refreshed 

and ready for everything life throws their way. 

We are all different, but we do share a common need to 

enjoy life and make time for renewal, whether it’s in our 

personal lives or our professional lives; sometimes the two 

are inseparably connected! Occasionally, we get stuck in a 

rut in our businesses, and all it takes is a slightly different 

approach in the way we do something to add a new 

excitement and freshness to our attitudes. 

As you consider ways to renew yourself, think about what 

you can do with your stamping events. If you’ve followed 

the same basic outline during your workshops for a while, 

juggle things around a bit. Sometimes simply changing the 

order in which you present things makes something routine 

feel different and fresh. Add a stamping game to your 

workshop or, if you always demonstrate the same kinds of 

products and techniques, consider trying new ones. 

You might also schedule an open house or a hostess 

appreciation night if you haven’t done those before. These 

events take more time and effort, but the payback can be 

tremendous. Open houses widen your circle of influence 

and can be a great way to introduce what you do to a new 

circle of friends. Hostess appreciation nights single out 

a specific group of people who deserve your thanks and 

support—and they often lead to repeat hostesses! 

Teach a technique or scrapbooking class. This can be 

fulfilling on several levels as you focus on a new dimension 

of your own stamping as well as add a new aspect to your 

business approach. 

On a more personal note, look for ways to enrich 

relationships with personal expressions of love and concern. 

If you’re not already doing it, stamp a card every week and 

send it to someone whose day will be brightened when she 

opens the envelope. Over and over again, I have learned 

that we can never underestimate the power of reaching out 

to others, both on those we touch as well as on ourselves. 

We all need moments—and sometimes days—of rest and 

renewal. A wise man once said, “In all of living have much 

fun and laughter. Life is meant to be enjoyed, not just 

endured.” I encourage you to recognize the things you 

enjoy most in life, the things that calm your mind and rest 

your body, and then take the time to do those things. You’ll 

find yourself feeling like a new person too!

To create the illusion of a shadow beneath her stamped travel labels, Debbie colored

crayon, she achieved a soft line that was darkest near the edge of her stamped image.

“And make sure everything is dry before attaching the window sheet to your card.”

Christie Daugherty attended Convention 2005 

shortly after she joined Stampin’ Up! As 

she watched cruise achievers march across 

Main Stage, she told herself, “If they can do this, so can I.” 

She set her sights on earning Cruise 2007, and she worked 

determinedly through the year. Her efforts paid off, and 

she set sail for Panama in April. Her hard work brought her 

another reward—she attended Founder’s Circle because she 

placed number two in Rising Star. 

Not only did Christie start out strong—she had $1,000 in 

sales from her first workshop—she continued that way. She 

holds two to three classes and workshops a week, and she 

runs four clubs. She’s strong in sales but equally adept at 

recruiting. Last year, she signed up 16 new demonstrators! 

The key to her success is simple: love what you do. “I love 

rubber stamping, and I love learning new techniques and 

trying out new ideas.” At one event, her customers made 

recipe file boxes by covering a metal box with Weathered 

Timeworn Collection paper and stamping it with the Best 

of Cluck set. She invited her customers to bring their 

favorite recipes, and they swapped recipes and ate together. 

The Statement of the Heart rings true for her. “If you’re 

excited and love what you do, others will be inspired.”

Weeks before Convention 2006, 

Jennifer Bailey’s group—and Jennifer 

herself—had high hopes that she would 

be one of this year’s Rising Stars. Needless to say, Jennifer 

anxiously anticipated the start of convention. She admits, 

“The flight to convention was the longest I’d ever had. 

I wasn’t really nervous until I arrived. My heart was 

pounding. I was so excited. I found out I’d won an award 

but wasn’t sure which one.” Once she found out she was a 

Rising Star, she says, “I screamed and jumped up and down. 

It was a wonderful feeling.” 

During a group meeting last September, Jennifer caught 

the vision of what she could accomplish. “When I saw all 

the cruise achievers come up, I decided right there and 

then that I wanted to make this happen for me.” She says, 

“Earning cruise was my goal, and anything else was just 

icing on the cake.” And what sweet icing the Rising Star 

award is for Jennifer! 

Nothing motivates her more than achievement and 

recognition. Working hard and trying to keep balance is the 

key for Jennifer. She’s made her goal for this coming year to 

successfully support her downline. And to any new recruit 

she offers this advice, “Anyone can do it! Change the way 

you look at yourself, Stampin’ Up!, and your business!”

I have found that 

offering an event

twist can re-spark a 

customer’s interest in her neglected 

stamps. For example, I may host an 

open house featuring “most popular 

sets sold in 2006” and include lots of 

new products in the projects. Then I 

encourage those who attend to book 

workshops, order products, or become 

demonstrators themselves.

not changing, you’re not growing!

Sometimes I feel 

that when it comes 

to being creative, I 

need a bit of help. 

So I turn to the 

Demonstrator Web Site, Stampin’ Up! 

publications, and swaps. Seeing other 

demonstrators’ projects really makes 

me want to sit down and stamp. After 

you are done making a card, you feel 

just as good as the recipient of that 

project—that’s what this whole craft 

is about!

on getting back to 

basics: A couple of 

years ago, I booked 

space at every craft 

fair in the tiny little 

towns near where I 

live. Doing those fairs put me in front 

of a lot of new people, and making 

new contacts really invigorated my 

business. When you’ve been in the 

business awhile, sometimes you 

become so invested in your downline 

that you don’t feel you have time to 

get new customers. So I think back to 

the things I did for my business when 

I first started. Plus, it gives me fresh 

experiences to share with my downline.

Deb: So many people have 

helped me along the way and 

continue to do so, but I’d have 

to say that the most influential 

person in my business has 

been Sue Hyer. She’s been my 

encouragement and my mentor. 

I truly believe I would not be 

where I am today without her. 

Karen: I have never had a best 

friend like Lisa Fast. I can tell her 

anything, and there is no way 

I would have met her without 

Stampin’ Up! I just adore her. 

Ronda: Anne Miller taught me 

that we’re put into our customers’ 

lives for a reason beyond our 

businesses and beyond stamping. 

We’re there to be their friend. She 

helped me see that Stampin’ Up! 

can be our way to serve others. 

Lisa: I have a lot of friends that 

I’ve made through Stampin’ Up! 

There’s something very powerful 

about women being there for 

each other. My daughter and her 

friends actually play “Mom and 

her friends!” Having all these 

caring, strong, independent, and 

successful women around all 

the time is a wonderful example 

for them. 

 



Cindy Fodor

Like most long-time demonstrators, Cindy Fodor has enjoyed 

the versatility of a Stampin’ Up! business and taken advantage 

of the opportunity to mold her demonstratorship to her 

ever-changing life’s needs. She maintains a busy schedule 

home-schooling her children and holding a variety of 

workshops, clubs, stamp-a-stacks, and other events. But 

Cindy hasn’t always conducted business the way she does now. 

“Over the years, I’ve changed several times,” she explains. 

“My first year I went gangbusters and did really well, 

but I realized it wasn’t working for our family.” Cindy 

cut her business back to one workshop a week. Then, 

when her children were a little older, she picked up new 

organizational skills and added a few classes. “When my 

kids became teenagers, I cut back again. And now with 

the new career plan, I’m upping it again. I just really try to 

keep a balance.” 

Through the ups and downs, Cindy admits that there have 

been times when she considered giving up her Stampin’ 

Up! career. During one of these times, her husband’s 

encouragement made her rethink her decision to quit. 

“He reminded me that I’d worked so hard to finally be at 

the point where I could relax a little. So I tried to rethink 

it.” The support of her husband through the different stages 

of her business has been invaluable. 

Another time, she realized that there were simply too many 

demands on her time. “I felt like everybody needed a piece 

of me, including my customers, and I was really tired.” 

Her solution? “I told my customers I was going to take a 

sabbatical. I decided to do only clubs, and I had 36 people 

join. I took three months off from doing workshops and 

just did clubs, and I still earned the cruise that year. I was 

so renewed and so anxious to get back to my workshops.” 

Cindy now holds regular workshops and has four clubs 

with ten customers in each. “I went to convention and 

heard a speaker talk about the average amount people 

will spend. If you require a lower amount, you’ll get more 

people, but they’ll still spend the same—an average of 

$30 a month. So I have a $15 minimum in my clubs. I 

want my customers to come and have fun, even those who 

cannot afford a higher budget.” 

As Cindy has met life’s challenges and shifted her business 

accordingly, she has learned valuable lessons. “I found that 

some people just want to purchase—they value my service 

and love my e-mails but don’t want to attend classes. I find 

that my Demonstrator Business Web Site is very beneficial 

for these customers.” Customers who only want to purchase 

join Cindy’s clubs and don’t go to the free classes that she 

offers for club members. Others who want more inspiration 

attend additional workshops, stamp-a-stacks, and stamp 

camps. “I still want to provide good service to all my 

customers, but I haven’t gone through a burnout since I 

learned that not everyone needs more of me than I can 

give. I have learned to value myself and my time. Others 

tend to value you more when you value yourself.” 

Cindy’s business proves a truth that many demonstrators 

hold dear: one of the best things about the Stampin’ Up! 

opportunity is that you can tailor your business to meet 

your needs and the needs of your family. Sometimes this 

will require scaling back your efforts, as Cindy has done 

on occasion. Other times, you will have the opportunity to 

step it up and take your business to the next level. 

Cindy went through one of these growing seasons two 

years ago. When her husband was laid off from his job for 

a few months, Cindy was grateful for the flexibility of her 

demonstratorship. “I was actually excited to have the chance 

to do more workshops and see what could happen with my 

business. In the end, I got to go to Founder’s Circle!” 

Whatever the current demands of her family, business, 

and life, Cindy believes in working smarter not harder 

to keep customers coming back. “I’m definitely a copier. 

I use the Stampin’ Up! Web Site. I love the templates in 

the magazine. I use those for my clubs.” Cindy keeps her 

Demonstrator Business Web Site updated regularly with 

new samples, and her customers go there every month to 

copy down the ideas. By using the resources available online 

and through Stampin’ Up! publications, Cindy can provide 

a constant stream of fresh ideas for her customers and 

still have the time she needs to dedicate to her family and 

personal life. 

Kudos to Cindy for her work through the years to develop 

a solid business! ■

Erika’s support runs the gamut from simply reading her 

Stampin’ Up! reports to see where the members of her 

downline stand, to holding her own awards night. 

When Erika saw on one of her reports that Brenda Keenan, 

a manager from San Jose, California, and a member of her 

first-level downline, was on track to earn cruise, she picked 

up the phone and called her. “Erika went over the numbers 

with me and helped me set cruise as one of my goals.” 

This April, Brenda enjoyed her first incentive cruise, to the 

Panama Canal!

Sometimes the biggest challenge in recruiting comes after 

your recruits have signed up. Offering needed support to a 

growing downline can be a lot of work. One demonstrator 

who is more than up for the challenge is Erika Schmitz, a 

senior manager from Pleasanton, California. 

With over 100 demonstrators in her downline, 25 in her 

first level, Erika could be overwhelmed by the amount of 

work it takes to support them. Instead, she consistently 

goes the extra mile to support her growing downline. 

Helping her downline achieve cruise isn’t the only reason 

Erika picks up the phone. She calls members of her 

downline every week. “I especially appreciate the phone 

calls,” says Brenda. “I live 40 minutes away, so I don’t 

get to many of the meetings. I know that I can call Erika 

any time to discuss issues or ideas for workshops or use 

her as a sounding board. I can talk to her as a friend; she 

understands my needs and issues.” 

Erika also contacts her downline with a weekly e-mail. 

Her e-mails include a tip of the week, ideas for workshops, 

card samples, and a weekly discussion topic. Anyone who 

responds to the discussion topic has her name entered 

into a drawing for a small prize. “The weekly e-mails keep 

me motivated, excited, and thinking about my business,” 

says Sonia Schimke, a senior supervisor from San Jose, 

California. “It’s important to keep a dialogue going within 

your downline,” says Erika. “It’s important that they feel a 

part of a group that is bigger than them.” ■

Look at your group members and see where they can improve or where they have needs. 

IS BUYING NEW PRODUCTS A CHALLENGE FOR 

THEM? Find a way to help them get the new 

products they need to keep their workshops fresh. 

Erika hosts a garage sale every year. Her downline 

is invited to bring their discontinued stamp sets to 

sell, and Erika pays for the advertising. The sale is 

a great morale booster because her downline gets 

to make room for new products and earn the cash 

to buy them! 

IS ATTENDANCE DOWN AT YOUR MEETINGS? Call a 

demonstrator who hasn’t been to a meeting in a 

while and ask her to present. Nothing gets your 

downline members involved like giving them a 

job. Plus, the experience of presenting in front of 

the group builds their confidence, sparks their 

creativity, and makes them better demonstrators. 

HAVE YOUR DOWNLINE MEMBERS STOPPED 

ATTENDING CONVENTION? Go as a group. Erika’s 

downline travels to convention together. They stay 

at the same hotel, try to register for the same 

classes, and always meet for lunch. They also go to 

dinner on the first night together. Help your 

downline build camaraderie at Stampin’ Up! 

events so they enjoy going and make it a priority.

In addition, Cheri focuses on her downline. “I do one 

huge training day a year,” she says. She also does monthly 

swaps and holds a quarterly recognition meeting for those 

who meet certain requirements. The gathering that is the 

most beneficial for Cheri is a bimonthly lunch/stamping 

party. “This is why some of us are really successful,” Cheri 

explains. “We pass around ideas and products, talk about 

what is working and what isn’t, and share everything we do. 

We often use each others’ total projects for our workshops 

and camps. It saves a lot of time.” 

Balancing Act

More than 10 years ago, Cheri Stojkovich joined Stampin’ 

Up! because she was in love with stamping. She didn’t 

intend to build a full-time business; instead, through trial 

and error, she has carved out an ideal part-time career 

that provides fulfillment, friendship, and fun—along with 

supplementing the family income. Cheri is yet another 

demonstrator who exemplifies the fact that, with Stampin’ 

Up!, you can customize your career. 

“I’m right in the middle,” observes Cheri. “Girls who are 

hobbyists probably think they could never do what I do, and 

girls at the top might think I could kick it up a notch and do 

much better. But it’s taken me several years to figure out the 

balance that works for me. I’m home with my family when 

they need me, and the money I bring in means I don’t have 

to take another part-time job outside of our home.” 

This perfect balance hasn’t come easily. For years, Cheri 

worked five to six days a week at her Stampin’ Up! business 

before she realized that what she was working for wasn’t 

what she personally wanted. “A couple of years ago, I cut my 

work schedule down to three days a week,” explains Cheri. 

“Now, I meet with my downline every other week for lunch 

and stamping, still accomplish what I need to financially, 

and my family notices more home-cooked meals.” 

Cheri works wisely, carefully choosing where to spend her 

time. She schedules one or two workshops a month, one 

or two classes a month, and one stamp camp every month. 

She knows that events are critical to finding new recruits 

and customers, so she places her events high on her list 

of priorities. 

The group also often divvies up assignments, so everyone 

can benefit from the work one person does. For instance, 

each demonstrator purchased a different Simply Sent card 

kit when they came out. They each created cards with the 

set, then shared both the cards and the sets with each other. 

“Our focus is on trying not to do all the work ourselves,” 

Cheri says. “We all pitch in to help each other out.” 

Cheri also makes the most of technology. She checks the 

Demonstrator Web Site every day and encourages her 

downline to do the same. “It always surprises me when 

girls go into pending and have no idea they’re there!” she 

observes. “But it happens all the time.” 

She also communicates frequently with her downline 

and customers through e-mail. “I send out weekly 

announcements to both customers and downline,” she 

says. “I can send e-mails to all five levels, and it doesn’t 

cost anything.” 

Finally, Cheri uses her creativity in more areas than simply 

stamping. “I identify what I want the end result to be,” 

Cheri notes, “then I try to figure out how I can achieve that 

most effectively and make it work for me.” For example, in 

the weeks before Sell-A-Bration, Cheri held a Sell-A-Bration 

challenge. Every Tuesday, she sent her downline a specific 

challenge they could do to prepare for Sell-A-Bration, from 

creating and sending cards to potential hostesses to making 

phone calls. 

“I’m very happy with the balance I’ve found,” Cheri says. 

“For awhile, I compared myself with those at the top, but 

then I realized that Stampin’ Up! can work for everybody. I 

just needed to change my focus and stop comparing myself 

to demonstrators who were working to accomplish different 

goals than I was. 

“Those girls at the top deserve all the accolades they 

receive,” Cheri continues. “But success is measured 

differently by all of us. If I can work part time, earn the 

money I need from home, and be there for my downline, I 

call that success!” ■

Cruise 

‘07 

Join our demonstrator reporters, Laura Barto and Terry Blais, 

for a glimpse of Cruise 2007 through the Panama Canal. 

Panama Canal 

Laura: We got up before sunrise to 

watch the ship approach the entrance 

to the Panama Canal. As the sun came 

up, the jungle came alive with loud 

animal and bird sounds. The ship’s 

engines were quiet, and we could 

almost reach out and touch the walls 

of the canal. 

In about two hours, we had completed 

the short distance through the three 

locks and up 85 feet to the spectacular 

Gatun Lake. It was mind boggling to 

comprehend the enormity of this feat 

accomplished almost a century ago. 

We went ashore and took a train to 

the Pacific Ocean, over the Isthmus 

of Panama, and then returned to 

Colón by bus. In only a couple of 

hours, we had seen both the Atlantic 

and Pacific Oceans. 

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas 

Laura: The sun was warm and the 

seas calm as the ship arrived this 

morning at the beautiful private 

island, Half Moon Cay in the 

Bahamas. My husband, Tom, and 

I loved the gorgeous beaches. As 

we played in the clear Tempting 

Turquoise water, a sting ray, a 

barracuda, and schools of fish swam 

by, tickling our legs as they passed. 

It was picture-postcard beautiful! 

Aruba 

Terry: It was 85 degrees and 77.7 

percent humidity when we docked 

in Aruba. There was plenty to see on 

this 19-mile by 6-mile island. After 

walking through the city a bit, we 

caught the second motor coach leaving 

for the Natural Wonders of Aruba 

tour. We also climbed the rock stairs of 

the Casabari Rock formation for an 

amazing 360-degree view of Aruba. 

A Few Laughs 

Laura: Brent Steele said he had the 

Fall–Winter Collection 2007 in his 

room and was afraid we’d throw him 

overboard. We assured him we’d save 

the catalog. 

Terry: I laughed when I saw three 

dining room stewards near a Stampin’ 

Up! display board. One of them 

carefully opened a card and exclaimed, 

“These are amazing!” 

Laura: My husband, Tom, always 

has to see how things work. He was 

tugging on the retractable clothes 

line in the shower, trying to fix it. 

Moments later, security phoned 

thinking we had called 911; we had 

a handicap-accessible room, and he’d 

pulled the emergency call cord! 

Terry: One evening my husband, 

Eric, performed in the Stampin’ Up! 

Superstar contest (similar to American

Idol); he sang Pearl Jam’s “Jeremy.” 

The judges ribbed him for wearing 

camo shorts. Everybody was laughing 

and having a wonderful time. 

Fun for all 

Laura: We always had so much to do 

on board with shows, great dining, 

classes, demonstrations, and more. 

A definite highlight was the guys’ 

swap! Lori Snider made swaps for 

Sterling Gardner so he could take 

part. In just three minutes, all fifteen 

guys were swapped out. 

Terry: Even the guys talked about 

Stampin’ Up! things. One remembered 

wearing a Certainly Celery shirt on last 

year’s cruise. Another hubby mentioned 

getting in trouble for using his wife’s 

Craft & Rubber scissors in the garage. 

Coming to a Close 

Terry: There was an on-deck, 

noncompetitive 5K Walk for the Cure 

with Shelli. More than 500 people 

participated. Each person paid $15 

and received a T-shirt and wristband. 

We raised over $7,500 for breast 

cancer research! What a wonderful 

way to end the cruise. 

Laura: Stampin’ Up! cruise connects 

us to each other and gives us an 

opportunity to be pampered and 

refreshed. We are thankful for the 

tremendous effort Stampin’ Up! puts 

into this fabulous event, giving us 

memories to last a lifetime. We are 

truly blessed to be a part of this 

wonderful company. I’ll be counting 

the days until the Bermuda cruise!

Q: How’s your recruiting going this year? 

A: My recruiting is going great. As of now [March], 15 

people have joined my downline, and I’m really happy 

with who has come on. They are all really neat ladies. 

As an upline, I try to focus on the relationships between 

all of us, and this has been a good year for bringing on 

people who have really enhanced our group. 

Q: Are you doing anything special to help you recruit? 

A: About 10 of my new recruits came on during Sell- 

A-Bration. I don’t know that I did anything special. 

Sell-A-Bration is a good time of year for recruiting, but 

the $99 Starter Kit helped draw a lot of attention to 

the opportunity. Really, only two of the ten bought the 

Mini Starter Kit, but the Mini Starter Kit got most of 

them thinking about it, and then they upgraded to the 

standard Starter Kit when they saw what a great deal 

it was. 

Q: If you were just starting your business again, what would 

be the one thing you would focus on to help you build 

your business? 

A: Recruiting. Definitely recruiting. I wasn’t into recruiting 

for the first several years of my demonstratorship, and 

I wish I had been. I was totally focused on sales, and 

I earned my first several cruises on sales alone. And 

while I have great relationships with my customers, my 

relationship with my downline—well, it’s more like a 

relationship with extended family. You get to know your 

downline on a much more personal level, and it is so 

rewarding. My daughter even invites my downline to her 

birthday parties. 

Q: What is your favorite thing about Stampin’ Up!? 

A: I love that Stampin’ Up! takes the time to say thank you 

for the things we do. I have never felt more recognized 

for my accomplishments, big or small!

Q: How did you discover Stampin’ Up!? 

A: I was introduced to stamping through a church event 

and loved it. I immediately started shopping for supplies. 

About six months later, I discovered Stampin’ Up! 

in Rubber Stamp Madness magazine. I called the 800 

number and signed up. The Starter Kit was $300, and 

I figured I could reimburse myself by holding three or 

four workshops. I was the only demonstrator in my area: 

my upline was in Spokane, Washington, and there were 

only a handful of demonstrators in all of Michigan. Even 

to this day, I’ve never been to a Stampin’ Up! workshop 

or group meeting other than the ones I’ve held. 

Q: What’s the most valuable information you take away 

from a Stampin’ Up! event? 

A: I leave Stampin’ Up! events with a good feeling. I know 

I’m with the right business: a strong company with good 

morals and ethics. I leave knowing Stampin’ Up! cares 

about its demonstrators. I feel secure, and each event 

reinforces my conviction that I’m doing the right thing. 

Q: What message would you like to share with other 

demonstrators? 

A: The key to success is perseverance. We all have times 

when we want to throw our arms in the air and give 

up. Those are the times to persevere. Challenges come; 

sometimes personal challenges affect our businesses, 

sometimes the challenge is to adapt with a changing, 

growing company. There will be bumps in the road, but 

stick with it. The longer you’re a demonstrator, the more 

you’ll realize that in the long run, the changes Stampin’ 

Up! makes are for our good. ■

Q: How did you decide to become a demonstrator? 

A: I was never a customer but jumped right in as a 

demonstrator. In fact, the first stamp I ever owned was 

in my Starter Kit. I joined to get the Starter Kit and was 

a few weeks away from going into pending when I 

finally held my first workshop—just to pay for the kit. 

The workshop was a $500 workshop and resulted in 

three additional bookings. I was hooked! 

Q: Tell us about your current workshops. How do you keep 

your customers coming back for more? 

A: I like to keep workshops short for a couple of reasons. 

First, I don’t want customers to feel overwhelmed. 

Second, I customize my workshops to the hostess. If a 

customer wants to learn a specific technique, she books a 

workshop and we focus on that technique. There are 

basically three things that keep customers coming back 

for more: fun, friendships, and follow up. 

Q: What’s the most valuable information you take away 

from a Stampin’ Up! event? 

A: There are tons of great ideas presented at Stampin’ Up! 

events, but not everything works for everybody. I came 

home from my first leadership conference feeling a bit 

defeated. There were so many ideas and success stories; I 

felt I could never live up to it all. Then I took a step 

back and asked myself, “What are a few ideas I can 

implement?” I’ve learned to focus on a couple of things 

that might work for me. I try a new idea based on several 

factors, such as how much time and effort it will take and 

if the idea is appropriate for my particular clientele. ■
