Co-curricular Activities
Well-rounded students are usually more prepared for challenges in life. Raffles
International School is committed to ensure that our students excel in the academic
curriculum, and also in the co-curricular programmes.
Activities at all levels (Junior, Middle and High School) capitalise on teacher/sponsor
interests and skills in sports (tennis, swimming, basketball, football etc), the arts (music,
drama and painting), and technology.
Languages
With over 70 nationalities represented, Raffles is well aware of the need to encourage and
nurture students’ ability to become global communicators. Languages offered include:
Arabic, which is mandatory for all students in the UAE, French, Mandarin and Spanish in
Grades 11 and 12.
Arabic is offered in two forms: Arabic ‘A’ for native speakers and Arabic ‘B’ for non-native
speakers. Students are grouped according to their ability in the relevant language in each grade.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
ESL support is also provided for students coming from the non-English speaking
background. Hence, it is important to give those students the additional English support
they need to realise their potential across all the subjects. ESL is provided until Grade 8.
Learning Support
At Raffles, we believe it is important to give each child an equal chance in life to gain the
most out of what life has to offer. The Learning Support team at Raffles develops and
improves students' core literacy and numeracy skills so they are able to better comprehend
and understand the school work. Learning Support is provided until Grade 8.
