Our Cheer program has done it again. They managed to collect <strong>and</strong> donate over 6 garbage bags full of wonderfully<br />
wrapped toys, clothes & other gifts for "2" needy families <strong>and</strong> "4" individual children, at S<strong>and</strong>ers Elementary <strong>School</strong>!<br />

Teens, Trails, <strong>and</strong> Trenches: For over three days at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park , students<br />
built a culvert system <strong>and</strong> moved a hiking <strong>and</strong> horseback trail in order to alleviate flooding. The students<br />
not only were able to get an up-close look at the Civil War battlefield, but also were taught that working together<br />
can make a difference. The SCHS participation was initiated by Andy Cole, a SCHS history teacher.<br />

BIG CHICKEN CHOIR SHOWCASE<br />
For the second year, our school has been invited to perform at the Big Chicken Choir Holiday Show.<br />
ATLANTA FEDERAL RESERVE NATIONAL BANK<br />
Representatives from SCHS Choir performed at the Holiday Luncheon. They received a st<strong>and</strong>ing ovation at<br />
the end of the performance! Students were told, “Your group is among the best we’ve had here in the past<br />
few years!”

Celia’s logo design was chosen as the logo for the South <strong>Cobb</strong> Redevelopment Authority. She received $250<br />
for the Graphic Arts Club, 4 tickets to Six Flags, <strong>and</strong> an tour of animation at Turner Network.<br />
Celia also designed the Courier banner.<br />
Homecoming Queen<br />
SCHS STUDENTS had the <strong>District</strong>’s largest increase in the percentage of students meeting or exceeding<br />
st<strong>and</strong>ards. 98% or more students passed or exceeded this statewide exam.<br />
Who’s Who luncheon at Pasta Bella<br />
Cultural Exchange Program:<br />
Ms. Katina Howell, a business education teacher, Bre’Ann Basket, <strong>and</strong> Malik Smith participated in a cultural<br />
exchange program. They spent 19 days in Europe <strong>and</strong> experienced the cultures of France, Italy, <strong>and</strong> Greece.

La Fiesta del Dia de Los Muertos was celebrated with music, food, <strong>and</strong> dancing. Art students enhanced the<br />
room with Dia de los Muertos portraits by Hispanic <strong>and</strong> non-Hispanic students.<br />
Exito Emory<br />
Twelve students participated at this event which allowed students the opportunity to ask questions regarding<br />
admission into college. They also participated in a project of choosing an application that met the requirements<br />
to enter Emory.<br />

SAT / ACT PREP<br />
SCHS offered free SAT Prep to students, as well as an opportunity to participate in Project 2400.

Jennifer Petrusa obtained her Masters Degree in Adolescent Education / English.<br />
Kamisha Polk obtained her Masters Degree in Educational Technology.<br />
Jason James obtained his Doctorate in Educational Leadership.<br />
James Rowlenson attended the Common Core Summit.<br />
Yolan DeRosa received <strong>and</strong> IMPACT Grant for her courses.<br />
Jackie Smiley <strong>and</strong> Gaelyn Warren received IMPACT Grants for $2,000 for their respective programs.<br />
The Media Center was awarded $1,000 to buy books from the Sisters in Crime mystery writers organization.<br />
Eva Becerra attended a course in Spain on Interculturality <strong>and</strong> Human Rights. She will volunteer for a Human<br />
Rights Foundation in Madagascar next summer.<br />
Louise White attended a 3 day workshop focusing on the Mexican artists, Frida Kahlo <strong>and</strong> Diego Rivera, at<br />
the High Museum of Art.<br />
Sue De Rosa attended the Oxford Institute for Environmental Science in Oxford, GA; traveled throughout<br />
south Georgia with the Teacher Conversation Workshop; worked with the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems Long<br />
Term Environmental Research Project at Sapelo Isl<strong>and</strong> with researchers <strong>and</strong> other teachers.<br />
Ellen Katzwitz received the 2013 Georgia Bio Teach of the Year Award for her work in STEM teaching <strong>and</strong><br />
support of the biotechnology pathway.<br />
Gaelyn Warren received a 2012-2013 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant totally $3,000 from the Lowe’s<br />
Charitable <strong>and</strong> Educational Foundation to use for the Spring musical.<br />
