EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY (PEMA)<br />

During periods of emergency, <strong>the</strong> agency coordinates state, county, and local emergency<br />

services. The management agency also has a program which provides operating funds for <strong>the</strong><br />

Fire Commissioner to coordinate and organize State-level fire safety functions; for <strong>the</strong><br />

administration and operation of <strong>the</strong> Volunteer Loan Assistance Program which provides lowinterest<br />

loans to fire, ambulance and rescue companies; and for <strong>the</strong> administration and operation<br />

of <strong>the</strong> State Fire Academy which provides training classes to paid as well as volunteer personnel.<br />

ETHICS COMMISSION<br />

The Commission’s powers and duties include <strong>the</strong> following:<br />

- Render opinions to present or former public officials and public employees as to<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir obligations under <strong>the</strong> Ethics Act<br />

- Investigate alleged violations of <strong>the</strong> Ethics Act<br />

- Receive and review Financial Interest Statements of persons required to file<br />

- Prescribe rules and regulations to implement <strong>the</strong> provisions of <strong>the</strong> Ethics Act<br />

- Prescribe forms for filing<br />

- Make statements available for public inspection and copying<br />

- Maintain a master index of statements filed with <strong>the</strong> commission<br />

- Prepare and publish an annual report<br />

- Accept and file information voluntarily supplied that exceeds <strong>the</strong> requirements<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Act<br />

HERITAGE AFFAIR COMMISSION<br />

The Commission addresses cultural heritage issues in Pennsylvania’s diverse ethnic<br />

communities, working with federal, state, and local government; professional and provider<br />

organizations; ethnic communities; and <strong>the</strong> public-at-large to identify, conserve, and promote <strong>the</strong><br />

varied cultural traditions that characterize <strong>the</strong> Commonwealth.<br />
