Troubleshooting while the HeartStart is not in use<br />

(green Ready light is not on)<br />

i-button flashes<br />

• The battery power is low or the<br />

SMART Pads cartridge needs to be<br />

replaced.<br />

• The defibrillator may have been<br />

turned off without a pads cartridge<br />

installed, or the installed pads<br />

cartridge may not have its hard<br />

cover in place.<br />

• The training pads cartridge has been<br />

left in the defibrillator.<br />

• The defibrillator has been stored<br />

outside the recommended<br />

temperature range.<br />

• The defibrillator has detected an<br />

error during a self-test or cannot<br />

per<strong>for</strong>m a self-test, or the Shock<br />

button is damaged.<br />

• Press the blue i-button. Replace the<br />

battery or pads cartridge if<br />

instructed.<br />

• Make sure the pads cartridge is<br />

properly installed with the hard<br />

cover in place. (See Chapter 5,<br />

“Maintaining the HeartStart,” <strong>for</strong><br />

directions on installing the pads<br />

cartridge.)<br />

• Remove the training pads cartridge<br />

and replace it with an Adult or<br />

Infant/Child Pads Cartridge.<br />

• Remove the battery <strong>for</strong> five<br />

seconds then reinstall it to start<br />

the battery insertion self-test. If it<br />

fails, insert a new battery to repeat<br />

the test. If it fails again, do not use<br />

the defibrillator. If it passes, store<br />

the defibrillator within the<br />

recommended temperature range.<br />

depleted.<br />

• The defibrillator may have been<br />

physically damaged.<br />

Remove the battery <strong>for</strong> five seconds<br />

then reinstall it to start the battery<br />

insertion self-test. If it fails, insert a<br />

new battery and repeat the test. If it<br />

fails again, do not use the defibrillator.<br />
