STUDENT COUNCIL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: The student council consists of the following elected members who must maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average: ASB officers, class officers and class presidents. Candidates for office must be in good standing in the areas of academics and behavior, and must be current in meeting their community service requirement. Purpose: To seek out ideas, opinions or concerns of the student body, to sponsor schoolwide activities, to foster student leadership within the school community, to give support to student organizations, to act as a clearing house for activities, and to work as an advisory group with the administration for the well-being of the school community. Anyone is welcome to attend the weekly student council meetings held on Monday after school, but only the elected members are allowed to vote. Periodically, open forum student council meetings are scheduled during the school day to allow all students greater opportunity to participate in student government. LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS The activities director hosts one or two workshops in the summer to plan for the upcoming school year. At the workshops, elected leaders learn leadership skills that they will utilize in their participation in the student activities program. Attendance is mandatory for ASB, class and club officers. TBA CLUBS/ORGANIZATIONS FORMING A CLUB OR AN ORGANIZATION Students may establish clubs or organizations which are in keeping with the philosophy of the school and which respond to their interests. The procedure for doing so is as follows: 1. Interested students meet with the director of activities to discuss their proposals. 2. Students formulate a constitution and bylaws for the proposed club. 3. Students circulate a questionnaire to gather signatures to determine interest. 4. Students seek approval of the student council and the administration for provisional status. 5. If approved and subject to the availability of a faculty moderator, upon completion of a successful provisional year, the club may be given permanent status. ADMISSIONS GENERAL POLICIES Immaculate Heart High School admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin. Applicants are accepted by the admissions committee on the basis of their performance on the entrance examination, their previous school records, recommendations from teachers, administrators or counselors at their schools and their personal interviews Applicants to Immaculate Heart High School must: 1. Complete fully and submit the school’s application form and an application fee of $50.00 by the required deadline dates. 2. Be certain that their current school has submitted to Immaculate Heart their complete transcript of grades to date and student evaluation form. 3. Take the school’s entrance examination on the scheduled date. 4. Participate in personal interviews with a member of the faculty, counseling staff or administration, as part of the admissions process. The admissions committee reviews all of the data listed above before determining which applicants will be accepted. The Director of Admissions sends a personal letter to notify those students who are not accepted. Those students who are accepted are sent congratulatory letters from the principal along with registration forms. The final step in the process is the submission of registration materials. IMPORTANT DATES FOR APPLICANTS Saturday, November 17, 2012 • Academic Playday for eighth grade girls Sunday, December 2, 2012 • Open House for prospective students and parents Friday, January 4, 2013 • Deadline for the following: • High school application for admission and merit scholarship entrance examination • Student evaluation form and transcript (including a copy of first quarter eighth grade report card) to be received by IHHS for consideration for admission and scholarships • Application for financial aid to be submitted to FACTS January 26, 2013 • Entrance Examination for Admission & Merit Scholarships January 2013 • Personal Interviews scheduled March 1, 2013 • Decision Letters mailed TUITION AND FEES Tuition for the 2012–2013 school year is $12,160. Tuition increases are determined by the Board of Trustees each year. There is a non-refundable registration fee of $500.00 for new students and a $150.00 re-registration fee for returning students. TUITION CONTRACTS Parents are required to sign tuition contracts each year. Tuition may be paid by the year, quarter, semester or in ten installments. There is a finance charge of $15.00 a month added to tuition payments made by the quarterly or ten installment plan. There will be a late charge of $20.00 per month added to accounts over 14 days past-due, and a fee of $25.00 for each returned check. The Immaculate Heart Board of Trustees has instructed the Principal to withhold class privileges from students whose tuition payments are more than 30 days past due. A student’s tuition payments must be current in order for her to be permitted to take semester examinations. REFUND POLICY If a student withdraws from the school, or is dismissed for any reason, tuition will prorated based on the period of enrollment. Refunds of remaining prepaid tuition, if any, will be issued after all checks have cleared and all fees have been satisfied. FINANCIAL AID Limited grants from the school’s Scholarship Fund are available to students who demonstrate need for financial assistance. All applications for financial aid will be processed through FACT’S Grant and Aid Assessment. The most efficient way of applying for financial aid is to complete the application online at www.factstuitionaid.com, beginning November 15, 2012. You may also request a paper application by e-mailing mschilling@immaculateheart.org or by calling the school’s secretary at (323) 461-3651, Ext. 222. A $30 application fee is required when the application is submitted. Parents applying for financial aid must: For Currently Enrolled Students: Provide a copy of their 2012 federal tax return with supporting schedules and W-2’s to FACTS. Additionally a supplemental questionnaire (available on the school’s website) must be completed and sent to FACTS. The financial aid application, tax information, supplemental questionnaire and application fee must be sent to FACTS at P.O. Box 82524, Lincoln, NB 6851-2524 by March 1, 2013. For Students Applying for Admission: Provide a copy of their 2011 federal tax return with supporting schedules and W-2’s to FACTS. Additionally a supplemental questionnaire (available on the school’s website) must be completed and sent to FACTS. The financial aid application, tax information, supplemental questionnaire and application fee must be sent to FACTS at P.O. Box 82524, NB 6851-2524 by January 4, 2013.
