Honourable Members of the Governing Council,
Advisory Council & Academic Council, Faculty Members
of IMIS, staff members of IMIS, Student awardees,
distinguished guests, friends from media, above all my
beloved students, ladies and gentlemen;
I am highly pleased to welcome all of you on this
15th convocation of the Institute of Management &
Information Science, Bhubaneswar: An institute that
has upheld its values and principles throughout its 16
years of existence!
I am deeply indebted to our Chief Guest Shri Sahay and
our Convocation Speaker Father Thomas for having
accepted our invitation despite their preoccupation. On
behalf of IMIS, I extend a hearty welcome to you, Sirs!
IMIS has a focused vision that inspires us to look
beyond Education and create ready professionals.
Readiness for us is the culmination of positive attitude,
impeccable behavior and invincible prudence that
creates astute business professionals.
As on date, IMIS has produced more than 2500
Global Managers and Dynamic Entrepreneurs. IMIS
firmly believes in the three basic institutional values
of Discipline, Leadership and Commitment. This value
system, in all its austerity, has proven to be a ladder
that has geared us up to be ranked as A1 B-School in
India as per the survey conducted by AIMA and CSR;
A+ B-School by Business India; and one among the Top
100 B-Schools in the Country by Dalal Street in the year
2011.
IMIS today is placed among the A1 B-Schools in India
for its intellectual capital, institute-industry-interface,
and training and placement. This could not have been
possible without the unremitting and dedicated efforts
of our faculty members, Executives, the support staff,
and Students. From a small team of 20 members in
1995, IMIS has moved from strength to strength and
now stands tall with a Faculty strength of 35, Executives
numbering up to 13, the support staff adding to 152,
and around 500 Students bringing with them the cultural
richness of 15 states of India.
IMIS, the b-school that thinks ahead, endeavors to excel
in all pursuits- may it be academics, career development,
corporate social responsibility or intellectual contribution
to the corporate- IMIS is commended for its exclusivity
in nurturing managerial dispositions with the right mix of
human touch that makes the IMIS talents successful in
all the functions and facets of corporate life.
A seed is a dormant tree… it is realized into a tree only
due to the efforts of those who have confidence to make
a seed a tree. Our students are like potential trees, they
are maneuvered in the right manner by our distinguished
faculty to make them those fruit-bearing trees!
Of course, this act cannot be successful without our
dedicated Center for Student Development (SD) headed
by Prof. (Dr) S. Dev. It is one of our core competencies.
Student Development continuously assesses the
students in order to make them eminently employable.
We do not believe in finishing school because overall
development of the student in IMIS is a continuous
process. For us, developing a student for a career is not
30 hours affair… it is a lifelong engagement. Thus, we
run a full-time assessment centre that evaluates trains,
re-evaluates and retrains the students to create that
RIGHT CORPORATE FIT!
Along with this, Corporate Interface Programme at IMIS
ensures that the students interact with researchers,
consultants, and stalwarts of Industries to satiate their
quest for knowledge. This year IMIS conducted Banking
Lecture Series inviting 12 Banks; Marketing Lecture
Series named Marketing Nuggets involving all areas of
marketing; and National HR Lecture Series with national
HR heads of reputed organizations.
IMIS is at the threshold of inaugurating a National
B-school Meet “Management Odyssey”, soon after the
convocation today. For making this B-School meet a
success, I certainly express my thanks to Prof. Tanmoy
De, Prof. Chunku Pani, Prof. Sujit Kumar Patra and
Prof. Laxmiprada Patnaik whose active support and
guidance has provided the zealous volunteers of this
meet to design, develop and execute the events.
