Who we are
Our travel concepts are all
about compelling ideas and
fresh thinking, with a good
dose of common sense
thrown in.
Magnetic South was originally
founded in 1999 by the late Anne
Wilks as a niche inbound travel
company offering dream holidays
to New Zealand for the discerning
overseas visitor.
Our unique style quickly earned us
the reputation as creators of tailormade
travel solutions for clients
from all over Europe, the United
Kingdom, the Americas and Asia to
this beautiful part of the world.
In 2001 Magnetic South became
part of the House of Travel Group,
Australasia’s largest privately owned
travel group.
This partnership offered Magnetic
South the benefits of belonging to
a large and successful Australasian
travel company, whilst retaining
the personalised focus of a
dedicated team.
Following growing demand from
our customer base, Magnetic South
introduced Australia and the South
Pacific into our product range with
immediate success.
Our well-travelled, multi-lingual and
highly experienced consultants are
hugely passionate about what they
do, and are proud to promote our
distinctive destinations.

In 1987 Chris Paulsen and selected
partners established a private
company called House of Travel,
which nowadays has a significant
retail presence throughout New
Zealand with 70 retail outlets.
These include corporate brands
Orbit and HOT Corporate, the
Adventure Travel brand and the
House of Travel leisure brand. The
family also includes the wholesale
company House of Travel Product,
dedicated to providing House of
Travel customers with total global
product solutions.
In 2004 House of Travel entered
the online space and launched the
award winning aggregated booking
website houseoftravel.co.nz, which
is the only technology of its kind in
the world, providing customers with
unparalleled flexibility and freedom
of choice.
In 2007 House of Travel moved into
the Australian market which has
seen the Group’s turnover increase
to well over $1 billion.
In Australia, House of Travel
operates the outbound wholesale
company, Holiday Specialists, who
have been retailing product to
the South Pacific and beyond for
over 30 years. House of Travel also
operates a mobile travel agency
service, under the Travel Managers
brand, offering a skilled network
of over 380 personal Travel
Managers nationwide.

Along with documentation we deliver
a personalised welcome letter to
your clients (from the responsible
consultant) which also has all of our
24/7 emergency contact details on it.
We also personally call all VIP clients
upon their arrival to ensure they have
arrived safely and give you the peace
of mind that your customers are
being taken care of.
