India
Many varieties of Citrus species are found in Northeast India with economic
and medicinal importance. Correct identification of the species is crucial for usage
as medicine, but traditional taxonomy is sometimes unable to identify correct
species. Species identification of Citrus species is conducted by phylogenetic
analysis of DNA sequences of the non-coding trnH-psbA regions of chloroplast
DNA, as it has been proposed as plant barcode sequence. The efficiency of these
regions to serve as potential DNA barcoding candidates is examined. The trnHpsbA
show promise as DNA barcode candidate but has certain limitations. The
phylogenetic tree analysis shows that trnH-psbA region is capable of discriminating
both inter and intra species variations very well.
