championship event
For more than 100 years, the IHSAA has enjoyed being
a part of the journey to adulthood for thousands of young
Hoosiers. Knowing that the student-athletes we meet today
will be the leaders of tomorrow, we are grateful for the
opportunity to help them as they learn valuable life lessons
through athletics.
Currently in Indiana, over 160,000 students from 411 different
IHSAA member schools participate in high school
athletics. From our perspective, participation in athletics is
an integral part of the educational process. At the IHSAA
we believe that the athletic arena
is an extension of the classroom.
The national organization for high
school athletics, the National
Federation of State High School
Associations (NFHS) has used the
slogan, “Athletics, the other half
of education.” We believe that
is a very accurate adage. There
are many things to be learned
through athletics that may not be
a part of the regular classroom
setting including lessons such as, self-discipline, the value
of teamwork, the importance of dedication and commitment.
Each of these can have a dramatic impact on today’s
youth as they prepare to become the leaders of tomorrow.
Whether it’s their ability to deal with success or overcome
great adversity, the important lessons learned will last a
lifetime. Each experience helps shape who one is and who
they will become.
For an organization such as ours, integrity is of primary
importance. An uncompromising adherence to the principles
of fair play and impartiality form the core of our value
system.
We hope you are looking forward to the 2010-11 school year
with the same anticipation and enthusiasm as the IHSAA
staff and Board of Directors.
Pure, wholesome, amateur, educational, inexpensive, local
high school athletics has always been the objective. It is

2010-11 IHSAA Board of Directors and
Executive Committee
The IHSAA is governed by its legislative body, the Board of Directors. Composed of 18 individuals elected by member
school principals from three legislative districts, they serve staggered three-year terms. Twelve board seats are filled by any
qualified individual (open seats), and six board seats are filled by two qualified female representatives, two qualified minority
representatives, two qualified urban school representatives and one private school representative. The Board of Directors
meets annually with the responsibility of establishing the Association’s By-Laws and regulations.
The Executive Committee meets monthly and is responsible for organizing and directing state tournaments and meets,
interpreting the Association’s By-Laws, determining penalties for rules violations, and establishing the Association’s state
office and employing a commissioner and staff to administer the Association.

Mental Attitude Award
At the conclusion of the state finals, the IHSAA Executive Committee will present the Mental Attitude Award to an outstanding
senior participant in the boys tennis state tournament. The recipient, nominated by his principal and coach, must excel in mental
attitude, scholarship, leadership, and athletic ability in boys tennis. Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance, IHSAA corporate sponsor,
will present a $1,000 scholarship to the school in the name of the recipient. Since 1989, over $707,000 in college scholarships
have been presented by Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance to deserving high school students in Indiana.

2009 Tournament in Review
PARK TUDOR BOYS CAPTURE TENNIS TEAM TITLE
Third-ranked Park Tudor needed a little over an
hour to defeat eighth-ranked Bloomington South, 3-2,
to claim its seventh boys tennis state championship
at North Central High School.
With Park Tudor (19-2) leading the match 2-1
thanks to wins at No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles,
the No. 1 doubles team of Derek Reinbold and
Matt Neal, a pair of seniors, clinched the Panthers’
championship with a 6-3, 6-2, victory over Blooming-
ton South juniors Matt Acton and Ben
Stowell.
It was the second championship
in four seasons for Park Tudor and
coach Dave Heffern. The Panthers
have never lost a match in their seven
trips to the state finals (15-0) and their
seven titles rank second in state history
only to North Central’s 17 crowns.
Park Tudor’s Brendan Tannenbaum
took a 6-1, 6-2 decision from
David Wong at No. 2 singles and the
No. 2 doubles team of Jack Miles and
Sam Geier topped Donovan Thomas
and Matt Helm, 6-3, 6-0.
Bloomington South, which finished
18-1, picked up its points from Ronnie
Schneider at No. 1 singles and Clayton
Fletcher at No. 3 singles.
Park Tudor topped No. 22 Concord,
5-0, in Friday’s quarterfinals and
No. 9 Center Grove, 3-2, in Saturday’s
semifinal round. Bloomington South, playing in
its first state championship match under the dual
format, beat No. 11 Zionsville, 3-2, on Friday and No.
10 Munster, 3-2, in the other Saturday semifinal.
2009 was the first year of a new format that
advanced eight teams to the state finals.
