Nine outstanding projects from eight hospitals in four
countries were honoured and recognised in eight categories.
Some 165 entries were submitted for the Awards
programme from 56 hospitals in 11 countries in the region.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was also presented
during the awards ceremony. Krungdhon Hospital’s, Dr Salai
Sukapunphotaram received the coverted award, when he
was recognised for his contribution to the improvement and
development of the health care industry in Thailand.
IHF’s newly welcomed member – Bangkok Pattaya

Governing Council Leadership Dinner on
patient safety
THE IHF GOVERNING COUNCIL LEADERSHIP DINNER
was held on 2 December 2004 at the Chateau de Divonne
just outside Geneva. The guest speaker was Lord Hunt,
Chairman of the United Kingdom’s Patient Safety Agency
and the whole event was sponsored by Olympus osYris, one
of the IHF’s growing number of industry members.
Lord Hunt delivered his speech on the progress to date of
the work of the Patient Agency and the need to create an
environment where patient safety events can be reported
without fear of recrimination and the information used
to make necessary improvements to medical and
administrative processes.
Andrew Dyckoff, the CEO of Olympus osYris, whose own
company’s products are deeply concerned with patient
safety issues, introduced Lord Hunt. Mr Dyckoff
commented that ‘We accepted with pleasure the inivitation
to become the the first commercial sponsor of an IHF
Governing Council Leadership Dinner. We were privileged
to support the gathering of outstanding leaders from the
health care institutions around the world. I certainly learnt a

ONE OF THE IHF’S MEMBER
HOSPITALS was delighted to
receive a prestigious award from
the Asian Hospital Management
Awards Commission for the
most outstanding project in the
Technical Service Improvement
category. The prize-winning
project was the hospital’s
medical technology instrument
calibration centre, which
consistently provided error-free
calibration.
The Bangkok Pattaya Hospital
was also judged joint runner-up for its ‘Tender Loving Care
Project’ from a field of 165 projects. The awards were
presented at a Gala dinner in the Plaza Athénée Hotel in
Bangkok on 7 October 2004.
