► Communicating on certification 

� At the start of the year, Bureau Veritas released the latest 

edition of Business Vision, the digital newsletter of Bureau 

Veritas Certification. The newsletter offers industry news, 

client stories and expert advice. Its interface is optimized for 

all the major e-mail packages including Outlook Express, 

Windows Live Mail, Gmail, and Lotus Notes v8.

► Acquisitions in fast growing markets 

� Bureau Veritas completed three acquisitions in fast-growing 

market segments, in Brazil, China and France. The 

companies are: Auto Reg, the leader in Brazil for vehicle 

insurance damage inspections; NS Technology of China, 

which provides testing and certification services for electrical 

and electronic equipment; and Thémis-Ingénierie in France, 

which provides risk management auditing services for the 

nuclear industry.

► Food safety accreditation 

� Bureau Veritas Certification received accreditation by the 

United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) for the Food 

Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000 scheme. Aimed 

at food manufacturers, the scheme covers the audit and 

certification of manufacturing and processing of food 

ingredients and food products. Bureau Veritas Certification 

can help clients in the food supply chain to meet the highest 

standards of quality, health, safety and environment 

compliance. 


► A new view on oil and gas 

� Bureau Veritas published a new brochure dedicated to the 

Group’s oil and gas services. The brochure showcases 

Bureau Veritas expertise in oil and gas, explains the 

services offered, and includes client references. It’s 

essential reading for anyone interested in how the Group 

helps its oil and gas clients.

► Guidance for floating offshore wind turbines 

� Bureau Veritas issued guidelines for the classification and 

certification of floating offshore wind turbines. The guidelines 

specify the environmental conditions in which such turbines 

may be used and include the principles of structural design. 

The guidance brings together Bureau Veritas’ experience 

with offshore floating units and moorings, combined with 

internationally recognized standards for wind turbines. 


► Verification of Conformity in Iraq 

� After an international call for tenders, Bureau Veritas was 

chosen by the Republic of Iraq to provide pre-export 

Verification of Conformity of imported goods, certified to both 

Iraqi requirements and international standards. The benefits 

of the scheme include consumer and environment 

protection, conformity assurance and faster goods release at 

the Iraqi customs office.

► Bureau Veritas acquires Atomic Technologies in Singapore 

� Bureau Veritas acquired Atomic Technologies Pte Ltd, a 

leading non destructive testing (NDT) company in Southeast 

Asia, based in Singapore. The company offers a full range of 

standard and advanced NDT services to the oil and gas and 

process industries. This acquisition allows Bureau Veritas to 

reinforce its asset integrity management offering and serve a 

much broader client base in the fast-growing Southeast Asia 

region. 


► 2010 financial performance 

� Discover the key facts and figures of Bureau Veritas’ 

performance in 2010. 


� Robust annual revenue growth of 11% to €2.9 billion 

� Adjusted net profit up 15% to €315 million 

� Number of employees: 48,000

► Launching Verification of Conformity in Zambia 

� Bureau Veritas has been appointed by the Zambia Bureau of 

Standards to implement the pre-export Verification of 

Conformity (VOC) program for goods imported to 

Zambia. Protection of consumers and the environment, 

conformity assurance and faster goods release at the 

Zambian customs office, are the key benefits of the VOC 

program. 


► Bureau Veritas in China accredited as best supplier of Boiler 

& Pressure Equipment 

� Bureau Veritas in China has been accredited as a Best 

Supplier of Boiler & Pressure Equipment in the 2010 China 

Pressure Equipment Development Report. The report is 

issued by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers 

(ASME) Code Product Committee of the China Petroleum & 

Petrochemical Equipment Industry Association. This is a 

non-profit organization, whose members work with ASME 

codes.

► Green Rating Alliance formed 

� Bureau Veritas joined forces with a group of leading global 

real estate companies to launch the Green Rating Alliance. 

This non-profit association is dedicated to assessing and 

improving the environmental performance of existing 

buildings. It aims to bring the Green Rating tool, which 

measures environmental performance, to the wider property 

industry and to exchange best practice.

► Guidelines for risk-based qualification of new technology 

� Bureau Veritas issued guidelines for the risk-based 

qualification of new technology. Qualification is a process by 

which a new technology or an existing technology used in a 

new context is approved. The qualification process aims to 

prove that a technology is fit for purpose. It is about making 

sure that new ideas are safe for people and the environment. 

The Group also began using its methodology to develop joint 

guidelines, for liquefied natural gas carriers and offshore 

floating production units, with the Russian Maritime Register 

of Shipping. 


► Expanding the Knowledge Center Portal 

� The Consumer Products Services Division of Bureau Veritas 

made two new additions to its online Knowledge Center. The 

Global Compliance Monitor is a weekly subscription-based 

service designed to keep companies up-to-date on 

international regulatory compliance issues. And White 

Papers are a catalog of research based documents providing 

focused information on a wide variety of industry topics, 

including new and emerging compliance issues, in a clear 

and easy-to-understand format.

► Bureau Veritas in China named Most Trusted Certification 

Institution 

� Bureau Veritas in China was named the Most Trusted 

Certification Institution in a research study published in Imp- 

Exp Executive magazine. The China Foreign Trade Service 

study carried out in 2010 covered five trade areas: ecommerce, 

exhibitions, certification, finance, and logistics. 

Conducted in collaboration with Huaxia D&B China, the 

leading commercial information consulting firm, the research 

is a reference for companies carrying out import and export 

activities. 


► Improving urban environments in Barcelona 

� Bureau Veritas continuously carries out urban environment 

inspections in Barcelona, Spain. The work covers areas like 

street cleanliness, public transport and management of 

green spaces. Inspections are based on client requirements 

and Bureau Veritas recommendations. The Group checks 

that suppliers are providing a high standard of service, and 

delivers objective data to the authorities, helping them to 

establish city improvement plans and optimize services.

► Launch of French Origin Guaranteed label 

� Bureau Veritas Certification and Pro France, a state linked 

non-profit organization promoting products made in France, 

launched a new label: Origine France Garantie, meaning 

French Origin Guaranteed. Bureau Veritas developed the 

label and is the certification body authorized to deliver it. The 

label not only helps producers to promote their products’ 

"Frenchness", and French consumers to buy local, it also 

helps consumers outside France, to purchase uniquely 

French goods. 


► Nuclear industry website launched 

� Bureau Veritas and energy group AREVA launched a new 

website for the Nuclear Quality Standard Association 

(NQSA) at www.nqsa.org NQSA is a non-profit industry 

association, created by Bureau Veritas and AREVA along 

with the NSQ100 standard, to meet growing safety and 

quality challenges in nuclear supply chains.

► A world first for energy management 

� Bureau Veritas Certification delivered the very first ISO 

50001:2011 certificate in the world to the Dahanu thermal 

power station in India, owned by Reliance Infrastructure Ltd. 

ISO 50001:2011 is the new standard for energy 

management developed by the International Standard 

Organization, and published officially on 15 June 2011. 


► Organizing an International Food Conference 

� Bureau Veritas organized the fourth International Food 

Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. The conference 

theme was: Food Safety and Brand Protection throughout 

the Supply Chain. The event covered the latest techniques 

for implementing a systematic approach towards global, 

sustainable food chain management. Guest speakers 

included representatives from leading food companies such 

as The Coca-Cola Company and Nestlé.

► Bureau Veritas delivers first ISO 29990 certificate 

� For the first time, Bureau Veritas delivered the ISO 

29990 certificate to Score Co. Ltd in Japan, for non-formal 

education and training services. This certification specifies 

requirements for providers of learning services in non-formal 

education and training. It helps clients establish a more 

systematic approach to continuous improvement and 

therefore to provide the highest quality service.

► Slashing reporting times 

� Bureau Veritas slashed the reporting time for a Condition 

Assessment Programme (CAP) report from three months to 

one month, and at the same time improved the accessibility 

and usability of the report. The dramatic shortening of time 

for the CAP report reduces costs for tanker owners and 

makes the Bureau Veritas CAP a useful tool for risk 

assessment of vessels and offshore units.

August 2011 

► First acquisition in India 

� Bureau Veritas completed the acquisition of Civil-Aid 

Technoclinic Pty Ltd, an Indian company specialized in 

conformity assessment services for public and industrial 

infrastructure. The Group is already a key player in systems 

certification, industry inspection and commodities testing in 

India. This first acquisition in India rounds out the current 

portfolio of services and positions Bureau Veritas in the 

booming infrastructure market. 


► Welcoming Toplis Marine Inspection and Testing 

� Bureau Veritas acquired Toplis Marine Inspection and 

Testing in the Philippines. The cargo survey company is also 

the Philippines representative of Inspectorate (a Bureau 

Veritas company). This acquisition strengthens the Group’s 

network in South East Asia.

► Presenting the Group’s 2015 strategic plan 

� Bureau Veritas presented its strategic plan for 2012-2015, 

aiming for strong growth following the success of the 2007- 

2011 plan. Entitled “BV2015: Moving forward with 

confidence”, the strategic plan was presented at the Group’s 

Investor Day in Paris.

► Accreditation for wind turbine certifications 

� Bureau Veritas Certification received accreditation from 

French accreditation body Cofrac to deliver certification of 

wind turbines worldwide. Bureau Veritas Certification now 

has official approval to handle all aspects of certification 

work in accordance with the IEC 61400-22 standard for wind 

turbines. This new accreditation will provide many 

opportunities for the Group to further develop its wind energy 

services.

November 2011 

► Recognition program 

� Bureau Veritas signed a recognition program with the Saudi 

Arabian Standards Organization. This agreement covers 

certificates of conformity for any consignment of 

commodities or products intended to be exported to the 

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from the following countries: 

France, Germany, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, 

Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan and USA. 


► Air Transport training accreditation received 

� Bureau Veritas was accredited by the International Air 

Transport Association (IATA) for its Transporting Dangerous 

Products by Airplane training courses. IATA is responsible 

for defining international regulations in airline security so this 

certification is a testament to the quality of the Bureau 

Veritas teaching programs.

► Implementation of Tanzanian Authorities Pre-export 

Verification of Conformity (PVoC) programme 

� Bureau Veritas has been appointed by the Tanzania Bureau 

of Standards to provide Pre-export Verification of Conformity 

(PVoC) services. Companies exporting these kinds of goods 

to Tanzania have to get the required Certificate of 

Conformity after having the conformity of goods checked 

prior shipment.
