Dear Learner, Welcome to the Post Graduate Diploma in Distance Education (PGDDE) programme. We hope that you have gone through the Programme Guide for PGDDE carefully. We have explained there that it is important to complete the assignments within the stipulated time to become eligible to appear for the term-end examination of IGNOU. All the assignments of PGDDE are Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs) and are part of the continuous evaluation process. Before you write the assignments, read the instructions provided in the Programme Guide and go through the course materials carefully. Please read the instructions pertaining to assignments before you start writing your answers. If you have any doubt or problems pertaining to the courses and assignments, contact the concerned academic counsellor at your Study Centre. If you still have problems, do feel free to contact us at STRIDE. You are requested to go through the course materials first and then prepare the assignment response following the instructions. Assignment 01 (ES-311) Due date: September 30, 2010 1) Answer the following question in about 800 words. Discuss the ways and means of meeting the different types of educational and training demands of India and other developing countries through Open Distance Learning. Give appropriate examples and illustrations. 2) Answer any three of the following in about 250-300 words each. a) Discuss the importance of skills development through Distance Education. b) Explain the terms ‘Correspondence Education’, ‘Distance Education’ and ‘Open Education’. c) What is the significance of pre-enrolment counseling. d) Write a note on the spread of Distance Education in Europe. e) Highlight the special features of refugees’ education in Zambia. 3) Answer the following question in about 800 words.
